I'm not interested enough to watch it, but I thought some people here might find this interesting/funny/sickening, you decide ;)

It's in the actual URL itself, for some reason it divides itself into 2 pieces if I try to put url tags around it, that's why I had to quote the address :(

Hmmm. Someone takes a classic and then ignoring it almost completely makes up his own plot and then sticks the classics name to it in an attempt to get some publicity for his work.

I'm planning on seeing it, because it looked like they ripped off the plot of the Animatrix - which I loved - and because I don't have much better to do. :D

The movie was initially called Hardwired or something like that, they just renamed it to feed off Asimov's popularity. True story.

I just can't help feeling they are going to try and make this a Matrix Prequel with shades of A.I. thrown in for the sympathy vote?

*shudder*

Apparently, saying "Please make me a real boy" for 25 minutes straight qualifies not only as good acting, but also as good directing. Me and my brother saw Kiss of the Dragon first, and then joined some friends who were watching AI, halfway through. After a full lenght movie, there was still like 45 minutes of AI left.

I just saw this, so here's my review without further ado. I'll try to spoiltag where necessary.

Good:
- General plot
- There was *some* resemblance to the general theme of Asimov's books - the three laws for example
- Will Smith's frustrated attempts to solve teh mystery :D
- Everything about the future seemed well integrated; it was realistic, IMHO.
- The USR parking garage...'nuff said. ;)
- ALL the robots sounded like C-3PO..same tone :lol:

Bad:
- The movie seemed too Hollywoodized at times
- The future seemed more like 10 years forward with 50 years forward technology, rather than 30 years forward - possibly due to budget.
- For the sake of drama, some things were more exaggerated than in RL
- Some things seemed like they were supposed to be explained, but didn't add up. Ex: Was the president involved? Why didn't HE notice Lanning acting strangely? Why didn't Lanning talk to anyone?

General impressions:
It was an enjoyable movie, worth the $5.50 I payed for it. I might get the DVD too. It seemed much more 'deep' than MIB, in a good way, which might be what you'd expect from a WS film. There were plenty of action scenes, although it did seem a bit unrealistic at times...
I'm inclined to think that they led people to think it was very Animatrix-like; it was similar in some parts to the whole Zion archives thing, but it wasn't a ripoff like I got the impression of it being...a welcome surprise. The guns were cool, and I'm wondering if they were paying a subtle homage to Batman with the SWAT forces. ;)
Finally...

Spoiler:

I thought it was an interesting interpretation of the Three Laws, with an integration of the Zeroth law - very negative. 'Course, the ironic theme that humanity creates beings with enough free will to serve them, but results in them attempting to rise up has been touched on in the Matrix.
Edit: Susan Calvin also seemed somewhat off, as both a character and in reference to Asimov's stories. At the beginning she seemed way too uptight to be believable, and then at the end, way too friendly to be herself.

and there was like 10 matrix references/flashbacks in the movie :p

but overall i think it was good.  an epic movie

Enlighten me, since my understanding of the Laws is limited to the original 3:

Law 1: A robot shall not, or through inaction cause, a human to come to harm.


Law 2: A robot shall follow orders from a human, except where such orders conflict with Law 1.

Law 2: A robot shall preserve it's existence, except where such actions would conflict with Law 1 or 2.

Law 0: ?  I seem to remember someone mentioning something about being able to disobey the other laws as long as such actions directly affect the preservation of Humanity as a race.


I've really got to clean up my collection and get some Asimov in it, right now I've only got a hardcover cheapo version of I, Robot.  No publication data(?) only a copyright date of 1950, but it's nowhere near that old.  I got it at an outlet style bookstore that used to be in Boaz, but closed like so much other stuff.  Do you need a store front?  You can get one in Boaz, AL for next to nothing I suspect.

Thrown out in the Elijah Baley robot novels, it actually plays a goodly part in the plot of some of them (They're a pretty good read on their own, actually)

It looks interesting to me.  I might go and see it.  It looks fairly well done overall (visually) and I like Will Smiths style in MIB and Independance Day.  I think its a good balance...he's sort of a down to earth kind of character in most of those movies who deals with extremely extraordinary events.  It keeps the plot grounded a bit so that it doesn't go too far off on a tangent.

We'll see.

I just saw it. Was pretty good, having not read the novels.

Though I do have to say the director obviously locked using a lot of disorienting camera movements. Whheeeee spin! :p

The first law is supposed to incorporate the "zeroth law" via a sort of utilitarian principle. That's actually directly pointed out as an issue in the book (or, well, one of his short stories, at least).
