I figured sence were getting more media coverage than we ever have before I think this would be a good place to p1mp the Source Code Project (http://dynamic4.gamespy.com/~freespace/forums/forumdisplay.php?s=&forumid=50)
we recently relesed version 3.6 (http://www.hard-light.net/forums/index.php/topic,23953.0.html) wich was our first HT&L enabled offical build, it went through a long intisive debugging proces, but there were only so many hardware configurations available for us to test on, and one important bug did get through, that being when playing on "very easy" you can't jump out (this was fixed very soon after it was found, look for recent builds for this fix). also due to some driver issues specular mapping stoped working on ATI cards useing driver version 4.5 and later, I hope for us to get vertex and pixel shaders before too long so this shouldn't be an issue for too much longer.
beond 3.6
we are constantly posting development builds for your playing enjoyment (and to hunt for bugs) once you have installed 3.6 you can go to the recent builds forum (http://dynamic4.gamespy.com/~freespace/forums/forumdisplay.php?s=&forumid=97) and get the lattest and greatest in terms of FSO developments (note; these builds have a tendency to be buggier than the offical relese builds, though this is part of why we post them, for you to help us find and track the bugs). recent improvements over 3.6 include
Environment Mapping
Damage Decals
Texture Compression
a number of internal restructureings that hopefully make the game run smoother
and a number of mod enhancements that have yet to have people take advantage of.
keep in mind a number of the improvements made require altered data that is not always supplied (though usualy is), most of the people roaming the forum are modders and have a good understanding of how to implement the changes needed to activate new features (and they do to make mods that you would need to download to take advantage of). if the environment changes so that more unfamiliar people are asking for data we will likely adapt to acomodate such a change.

Wasn;t the debris for the original Deimos psih, though? Just blobs with that 'damage' texture on it?

Hmm, seeing as how there is no (AFAIK) collection of SCP-ified screenshots available, might as well make one here. I'll dig up some more cool screenshots, and I urge you all to do the same, espcially for your respective mods/campaigns.
BTW, Flipside, what mod are those ships from. The top one could be a TVWP ship, but the bottom one doesn't look like anything that I've seen, either from the 158th or from the TVWP.

They're from Twisted Infinities, the top one is a freighter by VA (I'm terrible at names) and the other one is the Tyr Class interceptor. an illegally converted pleasure craft often used by freebooters etc :)

Possibly, I know VA went through a stage of rendering stuff up in 3Ds Max or the like. It it's not ingame, I'll remove it and replace it with something else :)

Would be quite a large map then, to get a one pixel star take one pixel on screen.

I'm pretty sure it's not - it looks too good. You'd have to have shinemapping, glowmapping, -pcx32 and then antialising enabled, and I still doubt you could get such clean lines.

Ok, well, looking at it closely, the light shading looks pixel based, not vertex based as well, so I suppose you could call this a development render for TI.
