Ok...got Photoshop 6.0. I've redone all of the BWO nebulas with fancy new Photoshop effects that I didn't know before.
Now the problem is that the game stutters like it never has before. I'm not even sure why because I made all of the TGA's that I was using before as well. So something is different. Maybe I changed something. I notice that the new TGA's are all the same file size while others were variable.
What are the best possible settings for good quality TGA's for high color backgrounds?

TGAs are, were, and will always be uncompressed.
If they were different sizes, they had either different colour depths or different resolutions.
The game stuttering like never before is entirely down to unexplainable slowdown issues with FS2open - something went wrong along the texture handling system I daresay.

Yeah my solution to that for the short term is to remove the media VP and have alot of RAM.
I also discovered my problem lies with a memory leak in Windows Explorer (the file browser system) that goes into an uncontrollable leak that pushes the page file into the GB very quickly. It was causing the slow downs....my new nebulas are very impressive now :)
I still only play one or two missions at a time so I may not have yet hit the top end of the leak. Also, since Cat 4.7's break shinemapping, I don't see that either.
