Since it seems inevitable that Mr. Smart will get the FS Liscence, why not post some ideas up here that you would like to see in FS3. Maybe Derek can get some ideas. You never know what might just show up...

If HLP does it, there will still be no official Fs3.
Personally, Inferno wouldn't be it...
To many beams and not enough player activity, and personally it's too farfetched

Its not exactly inevitable. We don't really know if Interplay is planning to sell to anyone and we don't know who may have gotten interested in the rights to buying it. There are many parties who may hold interest in the license and many with a much more substantial financial backing.
I'm not saying it won't happen...but I'm just saying to keep a mind open and a few thoughts as to what other things can be going on.

Besides - as a community we seem to have overwhelmingly (if unofficially) voted against Mr Smarts proposal. Though that doesn't change anything officially, shouldn't we at least try to maintain some degree of uniformity and avoid stuff like this, which demonstrates a tacit communtiy acceptance of his proposal?

Sure, they'll go all "yeah, we don't have a contract with THQ, we're not supposed to we working on [game name] right now and we have nothing better to do".
Btw, KT, that'll come to you as a shock, but sorry, I have to be blunt on that subject: Santa Clauss does not exists.

Bubba Claus does and he has floopy-eared flyin' coon dogs with toys insured by Smith and Wesson. Just be sure to leave him moon pie and RC Cola. ;)

I'm just gonna get back to the modding and take the news as it comes. Suggestions for FS3? Have to wait it out to see if that's going to be reality, IMHO. :)

I say we organize a death squad, take Mr. Smart and all his Coke Machine Cronies™ out* after he buys the liscence, make a clean sweep of the various terrorist organizations around the world while we're at it, including the SPCA and their ilk, fake Derek's will to show that HLP inherits the FS rights, then give it to Volition on a silver platter along with the 4 trillion that we've raised in the meantime so they can just tell THQ to go.... somewhere, drop everything, and make ever-increasingly brilliant Freespace games until the end of time or the number 42.
