Title: Inferno Mod crashes to desktop in Escort Mission
Post by: Emphasis on July 18, 2004, 08:38:41 am
The mission where I have to escort ships from/to Ross and at the start a Terran and a Vasudan argue over the comm. After 30 seconds it usually crashes and I dunno why.. I changed all of the options in the FS_Open Launcher by now but didn't help..

:(

simple answer - don't use FSOpen, the original R1 is designed for retail FS2 only

The problem is with one of the freighters, and HTL.  The more maps a ship has in HTL, the harder it will be to render (that's a simplified explanation), and one of the freighters has more maps that FSO has been coded to allow.  Now IIRC, the Inferno builds have this limit increased, but its best to wait until the R1 patch is made public.  Among some changes, the freighter in question has been remapped and condensed down to a smaller number.  FS_Retail, doesn't use HTL, so its not bound by those limitations, though everything else will run considerably slower.  As far as the crash when attempting retail, I had that problem too, so I created an unofficial patch to get around some of the problems I was having.  Woo has taken that and expanded on it considerably.  You shouldn't have to wait too much longer for it.

Later!

I opened a Inferno-build for the Launcher and it worked. That's that. HOWEVER. does anyone know how to fix the virtual memory error (windows is low on virtual memory) as my PC has lots of RAM and high specs but this still occurs.

What version of windows are you running?

How big is your Hard Drive, and how much of it is used up?

It's a known bug, the best fix is to try and remove all the non-essential files that you can.
