Title: CD image (.img) problems.
Post by: Rictor on July 18, 2004, 04:42:15 pm
I just so happened to have in my possession, sitting on my hard drive, a game in .img format. So, I burned the CD image in Nero, and it went through the whole process as normal.

Now, I insert the finished CD into my CD-ROM, and there's nothing there. It shows up and everything, you can open it, its just that there isn't a single file or folder to be seen. However, under Properties, it shows up as 100% full. Combined with the fact that Nero didn't take 15 minutes to burn nothng, its quite a mystery.

I should also mention that, being the careless person that I am, I deleted the original .img file. So, I either get this working, or its a 2 day trip back to the Supernova Mart to get a new one.

edit: WinISO and WinAce also see the CD as empty.

It's probably a CloneCD image file. Was there also a CCD and SUB file? If so, then you definitely need CloneCD to burn it.

I just checked. Yup, there is a .ccd file and also a .sub, in additon to the .img file. However, I didn't delete these, because it was only the .img file that was taking up the space.

...any hope?

crap!

OK, ISOBuster can theoretically see .img files, but the problem is, I don't have an .img file. I have a CD which is burned from an .img image file.

any bright ideas guys? I just need something to see the damn contents of the CD..

Is the session closed on the disc?  Also, if it is, try closing the disc.  IF this is impossible, try loading up Nero and saving the image back onto the hard drive.  I'm using nero 5.5 and this is how I'd do it.  I do this with CD's that dont get burned properly, and can manage to get the data off of them.
Load up nero, go into Recorder, then Save Track, choose the drive you have the CD in, save it as an ISO file. From there, you might be able to actually see any usable data, that is if any can be extracted at all.
I dunno if this will help or not, but I use this whenever CD's sometime dont save sessions properly, or just dont work period.

thanks for the advice Nix, but just as I started reading your post, CloneCD finished writing an image file back onto my harddrive, which had been created from the contents of the CD. Strangely enough, exactly whatr you suggested.

I appreciate the help anyway.
