Post by: BlackFish on July 20, 2004, 02:48:10 pm
How many people actually use joysticks to play freespace 1/2? I have a 10 button one and it's really fun to play with.

Just wonderin. :D

All joystick here, except for comm functions and some other keyboard essentials, of course.  I love my Sidewinder 3D Pro (also great for Descent :D).

Got a Thrustmaster Top Gun Afterburner II. Low-range HOTAS or high range joystick, depends on your level of elitism :p
But I got Most of the control on the joystick this way :)

I've used both but I prefer using my mouse for the greater precision in aiming.  My mouse has total of 7 buttons so I've mapped some of them for pitch to add to my manuevering capability.

I use a Sidewinder 3D Pro, my brother uses a Cougar.

We've got a mini 'stick thread going in the Saitek X-45 thread too! :)

Joystick. Used to be a Saitek Cyborg Gold, but my little brother killed it playing racing games too violently with it (he's buggered the twist axis - Z IIRC), the fool. So now I'm getting him to buiy me a new one. I'm torn between the new top-end Saitek, cos they're great, and getting a HOTAS setup. ;7 Whaddaya think?

Joystick, a half-busted Cyborg 3D Gold.
But for my mod, I have up/down/left/right thrusters, so I use WASD in conjuction with the stick :)

I've used an absolutely wicked keyboard combination untill I had to switch to split keyboards.  Now I have managed to have some of the flight controls on my left hand along with the comm functions and targeting, a very select few keys on the other side of the split, and use my mouse's extra buttons for weapon switching and precision flight control.  Now if Microsoft will ever release the new version of Intellipoint which brings back custom-button mapping, I could make full use of the scrolly-rocker wheel my mouse has.  All in all, it works quite well.

I've actually never owned an actual flight-stick style joystick.  I've owned a gamepad to play Final Fantasy 7 though.

Yet another newbie (to these forums, at least :) ) jumps into the fray...

I'm currently using a Logitech Extreme 3D Pro; I'll probably switch to the Saitek Cyborg or X45 (if I can find a wireless keyboard/mouse combo that I like; my keyboard shelf just ain't big enough :( ) though.
