As you can see, People have wondered where Freespace will go...
It looks that even in their own divinity no HLP Admin. could have imagined this. :D
To continue that thread...
Post where do you see freespace in the future?
This is just another reminder that miracles do happen for a passionate community willing to contribute... and I'm proud adn honored to be a part of it.
Special thanks to all the members of campaigns, SCP, Ferrium, and the community contributers... I hope to see and play even more for what's in store in the future ahead. :)
Thanks

Ok, I'm sorry, but the mere notion that the only way to create campaigns is by adhring to the original Freespace universe is just stupid. You can change every single aspect of the universe to create your own universe. And it doesn't even have to be with an entire fleet of new ships. Just a new story.
Are people's minds really so dense they can't see beyond the FS universe? I certainly hope not. When the time comes that the FS universe has been creatively exausted we just move on and use OUR OWN ideas. Or are we stuck in this mindset that we must, without exception, use the original FS storyline as the basis of our concepts? Again, I certainly hope not.
I'm sorry but i find that a huge pile of bull**** that modding will die out. If people can't bring up the creativity to create something of their own and look beyond the obvious, my expectations of the creativity of this community are highly overrated.
But on another note, I doubt that the FS universe is no longer open to new storylines. Far from it.
Just my 2 cents...

Well, that was in 2001 ;) We're still here :D
-
Still, the very notion of it annoys me...

Does anyone have the the thread announcing the source code release?
-

actualy HLP had a like two week down time starting nearly the same exact day as the SCP relese, so I doubt there is a thread anounceing it as we all celibrated over at VW, I think that BTW is how the whole VW being the HLP backup began.
and if we hadn't got the source code, I realy think most of us would have moved on, I realy was starting to question how much further we could go and looking for greener pastures.

a year anda half ago, I thought that thouse people who make mods for gamse had to be supar smarty gies, but here I am.

And Machina Terra is still on top!!
-
Is Pixel Shader 1.1 even possible with the source code?
-
I could see that looking strange. Though motion blur would be a nice addition...
-
As far as I'm concerned, we've got all the tech upgrades to make this look as good as any recently released AAA game. What is lacking now is content. Specifically, Lightspeed needs to do more nebulas, and the existing ones need to be more widely utilized. Also, some high poly capships (cause face it, its just not worth the slow-down on the fighters, they wizz by so fast) would also be great.
-
I think the if the memory leak was fixed then more things would be possible in-game...
Not rushing anybody or anything... :D

How about a thread wondering IF it will ever be released (http://www.hard-light.net/forums/index.php/topic,6747.0.html), about 10 days BEFORE it actually WAS released? ;) Some interesting "If they release the source code, I'm going to do this and that" claims there, too. :p
Then there's the thread when HLP came back online (http://www.hard-light.net/forums/index.php/topic,7102.0.html) a few days after the news was already widespread.
And this thread (http://www.hard-light.net/forums/index.php/topic,7105.0.html) is probably about as close to an announcement on HLP as you're gonna get. :)

What's this?!?
I never thought I'd even read Setekh puffing on a Crack Pipe ;)
And I see that Kazan has been planning 'FSF' for a looooong time too :)
-
I'm still curious, is Pixel Shading possible with the Freespace 2 engine?

Well, I think the freespace community will continue to create campaigns until we grow old and die. Its our hobby and our passion. It woud be hard for us to just abandon it.

Ahh, you saw that juicy tidbit, eh? So THAT's why Galactic Emperor disappeared a while back... ;)

Add on - maybe, but I fear theres a hell of a lot of work in making the engine good. When I say good I mean taking a 5 year old engine and giving it the spit and polish needed to make it stand against the engines of today in tech specs... Still at least we have a good base!
:D

Why not? Just takes coding... and coding... and coding...

Oh man, that is one heck of an old thread. Thanks for bringing it back up. Scarily enough, I still remember posting it. :) What can I say? This game, or more importantly this community, never ceases to blow me away. I'm looking forward to reading these posts in a few years time... 3 years is like 30 years in web ages, heh. ;)
