Are you sure its not a Microsoft Works document? Works documents are a pain in the butt to translate. Try opening it with notepad or wordpad. BTW, most computers dont come with word because it costs about an extra $90.

Okay, then you are probably dealing with a Microsoft Works (heh, possibly the biggest oxymoron) document. Search on Microsoft's site for a Microsoft Works translator. If there isnt one you are going to either have to "acquire" Works or tell whoever made the document to send it to you via notepad.

yup, its a Works text document.

What is Works again? I've run into it every now and then, but what actual function does it serve? AFAIK, its a word processor, but Microsoft already has Word, so why make another one?

Its the stripped down version of Microsoft Office that comes with many home systems (dell, gateway). Its so worthless. Microsoft is so greedy.

Any help?

http://www.userful.com/support/ms-works

BTW avoid works or MS office like the plague. Use Open office instead

http://www.openoffice.org/

Why pay hundreds when you can get something legally for free that is as good?

Actually, I just downloaded and installed OpenOffice this morning, cause none of the MS Office programs would run, on account on not being able to find some .dll or whatnot.
