Like I said, I would have nuked the previous post it myself, but no biggie. Just wanted to say I'm sorry is all.
Thank for the great info on this site guys, keep up the good work. Who knows, I may one day get my own little *cough*copy*cough* working in full version likeness.
Yea, I should buy it, but for 100$ dollars? And the money isn't even going to interplay, it's going to some guy selling his own copy.
Well anyway, thanks again, and please nuke the last post quickly.

I recently received my copy off Ebay for 50 bucks. It was a great deal because this particular copy came straight from the Interplay office due to the fact they're going out of business. Apparently the guy that sold it to me was cleaning the building up and was put in charge of selling off some copies on Ebay. They're all Sci Fi Sim of The Year Editions and he recently told me he has 3 copies left so if you want more information just say so and I can probably get him to talk to you.

Man! That is GREAT! Drop me a line at

I'll take another one of those copies off his hands. I would have settled with normal freespace, but GOTY edition would rock!

To be honest I though Lonestar was a little harsh there.
At HLP most of the admins have no problems with the HotU version of FS2 so I doubt that this is very different. I'm sure that they don't want the files on this site or a direct link posted as that could get HLP in trouble but there has always been tacit support of the HotU version because as you say FS2 is virtually impossible to find for any reasonable price.

I actually don't totally agree with Lonestar there. Yes, interplay still owns the game rights, BUT as interplay is no longer selling the game, and thus cannot make money off of it, there is nothing stopping what you were planning, Molish (as far as I know).
Take HotU for example. I've been a semi-regular browser of their site for over two years now (actually how I found FS2 to begin with). They have a number of games for download there, and also a number of games with links to places to purchase them (if such links exist, there is no download). Whenever a company asks them to, HotU will remove their downloads (one example is they used to have downloads for three or four Warhammer games, but removed them at the request of the publisher)
With FS2, when Interplay released the limited edition anniversary edition of the game, the FS2 download was removed, but after the copies were sold, the download came back. For years now, HotU has had numerous downloads of games, and never suffered any legal repurcussions from companies. If Interplay doesn't mind HotU offering a download that, while lacking in some media features, is still perfectly playable, I can't see how they can complain about your plan.

Basically what Molish was suggesting is a mirror of HotU/the Freespace FTP.
Now while I can see that HLP might not want to be associated with a direct download I can't see how this is any worse than either of those two.
If you do go ahead Molish feel free to PM me so that I can put up links in my FAQ. I'm sure Fractux wouldn't mind another FTP mirroring his files so I'll be happy to upload anything you need (I uploaded a fair bit of what he has and I'm happy to do it again :D ).

I just sent the seller an email and I told him to email you. Hopefully he'll give you a reasonable price and hopefully he still has those copies in hand. Good luck and tell me what happens.
