Ok, I'm playing through the main campaign using WMCoolmans latest build and the complete z_pack effects. The game plays really well apart from two things so far....
1 : Occasional 'freezes' of up to 15 seconds in-game. Everything will just come completely to a halt for a long time and then return as though nothing had happened. No particular event seems to set this off at all.
2 : A Complete System Reset on mission 4, where you are to chase the Iceni. After the Iceni has jumped, the Freighters arrive ok, but the moment the Capships (The new Fenris iirc) arrive, you see the blue glow and then the game hard reboots the entire computer.
I have a feeling these are both related to the memory leak, so I'm not putting it in Mantis yet, but I thought I would share my experiences :)

Same freeze problem here. But only in missions with many ships.
(512 MB DDR Ram)
No hard reboots, but sometimes ctd without any error message.
Not only in missions, but also in the techroom, after scroling down the shiplist.
Explorer.exe takes huge ammounts of memory, after playing FS2_open... (200~300 MB, sometimes even more.)
My only solution for this is closing explorer.exe after starting the launcher.
(Win XP)

Assuming this is all in D3D try to reproduce in OpenGL if you can. If you get the same results please file a bug in Mantis. If you don't then post here and I'll step up my D3D memleak hunt.
I think that the CTD in the techroom is known. Which ship does it crash on? If it's the new Fenris model then it's known, if not please let us know. The Fenris crash will happen in both D3D and OGL so if this is the case then don't file in Mantis, there is already a bug for it.

When a freeze occurs, does the music continue to play as though everything was still normal, and if any loop sound was playing (like the aspect locking bit) does it continue to loop?

Just a point of contention, the mission you mentioned is mission 3 not mission 4.

The music continues as normal. And the crash bug is limited to Direct3D only. OpenGL works just fine :)
Oh yeah, mission 3, I entered one of the training sims by accident on the way in :)

I've been having the same bug, and its not the first time. I used to get it back about a year ago, but I was using older nVidia drivers that were compatible with another game. In that situation, it would freeze up, but it would NEVER unfreeze. When I updated to the latest nVidia drivers, it would still freeze, but it would unfreeze after a bit. Now, after a hardware upgrade, it happening again, and it doesn't appear to be unfreezing. I plan on screwing around with driver settings and launcher settings to hopefull find a way around this... when I have the time.

I have been getting the hard reboots with the recent builds. However now it wont even load up. (see "Need help!!!" thread)

Slight update on this one, I'm almost certain it's the memory now, I turned off all SCP features and in DirectX the ships DID arrive without the game crashing, but, by the end of the mission, things had started getting jerky, which carried on into the debriefing at the end of the mission.
Also, until things are sorted with the POF data, people may think the game has hung when they click on the Fenris in the Tech Database, it hasn't, it just takes ages to load ;)

I'm not sure if this would work for you in this instance, but I seem to have managed to fix my lockup problems, by dropping my AGP setting from the default 8x, down to 4x. I also had a general increase in system stability after doing this.

Try the new build and see what happens.

Maybe tomorrow evening. I have to work tomorrow and can't stay up too much longer.
