It may indeed say that this bug has been fixed "right on the first page of the 3.6 release thread" but the problem persists anyway – for me at least. The jump drive will not engage in the vanilla campaign (mission 9) using 3.6 but with the 7-20-2004 build it is not a problem. I have no idea why it is so, but it is.

What that message means, is that in a build that has been released SINCE the release 3.6, the bug has been fixed.  The original 3.6 in the installer still has the bug, but newer builds have fixed it, they just haven't been included in the installer.

If it points you to a new build, use the new build.  Don't keep using the old build when we've already warned you it won't work.
