In High noon you may notice that the Sathanas is not ordered to attack the Colossus, just to do a waypoint. This is cos if it was ordered to attack the Colossus they would just keep trying to get behind each other, (making them just go round and round in circles). The fact that they do this makes it hard to make capship battles in FRED 2.
But I have found a solution to this problem, you just turn dynamic goals off and order them both to attack each other
When i used this i found that a Lilith could beat any terran ship (apart from the Colossus), every ship below destroyer class for the vasudans and everything but the Sathanas and Luci for the Shivans!
EDIT: Please say if it works or not, I would post a poll but you can't add those in an edit...

Now THAT is some of the info I needed to hear. Thank you much. :D

Iiiinterrrresssting....

this I have got to try ;7
-
a lilith can beat a deimos?
-
seems to work on cruisers only............corvettes still seem to try circling each other.
-
a lilith can beat a friggin' hades!

Two rocks held together by a wad of chewing gum could beat the Hades. Have you ever played Silent Threat?
That said, the only instances I've ever seen where anything larger than a cruiser tries to go head-on with a capital ship were all heavily scripted. There's the Repulse trying to ram the Colossus, but that's dealt with by a beam-fire sequence; the Sath in High Noon, but it isn't actually told to attack because it's main guns are supposed to be disabled before the Colossus could outmanuver it anyway, and the Ravana "Beast" in Clash of the Titans II had a specific code exception ("if mission name = 'Clash of the Titans II' and ship = 'SD Beast' then break AI, to paraphrase). What would be nice would be to have this option available to larger ships. Just a question though, are you able to change the cruiser's orders?
-
you guys never played "Their Finest Hour" ??
The Lilith that appears hammers everything untill it reaches the Colossus. It's way over gunned, especially for a Cruiser
-
You have got to order both ships to attack each other StratComm,
and i have never played silent threat, i just think the Hades seems a V. good ship in FS2 and has even beaten a Lucifer for me
-
I think you're in the minority there pal. The Hades has gotten alot of stick IIRC

The problem is, neither of those ships were used in FS2, so neither have even vaguely appropriate weapons configurations. The Lucifer has a single pair of SReds I think, and the Hades a BGreen or something. The rest are FS1 plasma blobs.

Oh I'm very aware of the problem, thus our repeated requests for a "big guns forward" flag that would allow capitals to face their targets when given an "attack" command. I'm simply pointing out the reason it wasn't implimented in the engine to begin with; simply put, the original coders found it easier to hard-code an exception than to make it customizable on a per-mission basis. And I only comment because it seems that the dynamic orders bit would be important if the attacking ship were supposed to do something after making its run.

I know I am in the Minority because i like the Hades, but i think that because (from what i've heard) it was rubbish in Silent Threat ppl haven't given it a chance in FS2

the Hades is wellknown and liked in multiplayer Fs2... ;)

Uhhhhh, dude.... I had to rearm so many times just to bring the Hades to 50%, I'm surprised the fleet had time to resupply before the Gamma Draconis incursion.
-
The Hades doesn't appear in FS2. I'm surprised it appeared in FRED2 to be honest.
-
Meh, the Hades is a quad-testicled genital ship. it surprises me it isn't limp.
-
What the crap?! Did I buy some kind of Practical Joke Edition of Silent Threat, where the Hades is like one of those joke candles that won't blow out? I swear up and down the entire 3rd fleet probably doesn't carry as many explosives as I had to use on that thing.

Most of us just taped down the primary fire key and went out for a coffee.

Oh yeah, rubber band around the joystick.

It DOES have 4 BGreens on the bottom of it. If it was able to position itself the right way it could easily toast anything (not counting Juggernaughts). That in addition to its 400000 hit points makes me look twice at it.
EDIT: And I find it hard to believe that it could take down a Demon or a Ravana without support. They have more hit points and over twice the firepower.
