Boy, Spielberg is busy!
-
Damn WOW! that might be interesting :)
-
I've heard about this live action movie for about two years now, and I never thought it was going to be a reality....
I hope it'll atleast have something to do with the original series, not the ****ty Japanese ones or the recent Robots in Disguise or Armada series.
-
What sort of Transformers movie will Steven Spielberg make?
Ah well, could be fun :D
-
Live action?
err....I dunno :doubt: :doubt:
-
Actually, it's Dreamworks making it, not necessarily Speilberg. Read the article. :)
-
LOL Good, I had visions of it turning into some angst ridden dialogue on 'How can the Transformers be 'good' when they keep blowing stuff up?' ;)
-
Could be brilliant, could be awful.
-
All I got to say is that it had better be Beast Wars...

****, no. Robots pretending to be animals?
-
Did you watch the entirety of Beast Wars? It had the coolest premise of them all.
-
Beast Wars is the best Transformers series ever. One word...con-tin-u-ity!
There is good news though, Spielberg is also making another WW2 drama about Iwo Jima. Unfortunately, he and Tom Cruise?!?!?!?:wtf: are doing a remake of War of the Worlds(the potential crappyness is nearly unlimited)
-
w0rd to that. It actually had character depth, development, and a real plot/story too. Not to mention it looked damn cool.
-

Unless you mean the absymal cgi cartoon that sometimes oozes onto Channel 5 - no.
-
Yeah but it wasn't the best concept. It may have been executed well but I prefer the original set up to Beast Wars.
Now if they execute the original premise as well as Beast Wars did theirs then we'll have a kick arse movie :)
-
they should put both in anyways in the original some transformers where beast?, like the dinobots and some where jet's and things they should put both in,
1 question tho, why in beast wars did they have to turn cyber tron into a bloody plant? that was stupid, there robot not animals or human? I dont get the part about the bone niether.

chances are the that might be close to the book, than say, the previous movie.
but all this talk about a transformers movie does interest me somewhat... i'll wait for more in-depth details to crop up before i pass judgement, however.
-
Heh now being that I grew up with transformers,...this would really be cool to check out. Geez I still recall the first comic book having the characters drawn out almost 100% true to the toy! (God that was both horrifying and terrific at the sametime).
Seriously thou it doesn't really surprise me, what with the 'Attack of the 80's' in all the toy stores here.
-
*reminds everybody of what they did to the Thunderbirds*:sigh:

I wouldn't knock it though. They'll probably 'modernise' the story a bit, and add Spielberg goodness, so I don't imagine it'll be all that bad. I'd expect something like ID4... maybe?
-
I wasn't around for the original Transformers (too young), though I do remember a few episodes here and there from my childhood. The Dreamwave series of Transformers comic-books has done quite a bit to rectify my lack of knowledge about the original Transformers.
However, I vividly remember BeastWars, and I also remmeber that the polotline was just flat out cool. Especially in the latter seasons, with the introduction of the aliens, the Ark and whatnot. Unfortunately, this is just about the time I stopped watching, but I'll make a point of getting the whole series on DVD as soon as possible.
Don't any of you get all puritan on my and pull a "well that not the REAL tranformers". It was good for what it was, a semi-independent series that drew upon a familiar mythos and cast it in a new light.
As for yet another WWII film, doesn't anyone find that its getting kind of boring? I mean, we have half a dozen movies and more games than I can count, all with the exact same angle. Its more or less the same story, except that when its happening in Normandy, its called Band of Brothers or Saving Private Ryan, when its happening in Somalia its called Black Hawk Down, and when its happening in Vietnam its called We Were Soldiers. When is there going to be a fresh angle on the story, such as has not been seen since Apocolypse Now or, to a degree, Full Metal Jacket. I'm tired of having phony patriotism spoon-fed to me.
-
Heh, I watch movies to get away from Wars and stuff ;)

well, i'm hoping that the martian invaders will be something like
This:

as opposed to

I agree. They probably didn't do tripods in the 50's version cause they would have been much harder to do. The 50s version isn't actually bad but I want martian tripods stalking across the English countryside.
No doubt the movie has been set in America due to the fact that they're worried that American audiences couldn't find England on a map let alone care about Martians invading it though :doubt:
-
Why would they want to invade England anyway? You guys are tiny. We are big. Get over it. :p

The book was set over a century ago when the British Empire covered 1/4 of the globe.
Sure if you're setting the movie now the US is a more natural choice cause everyone except the UK would help the aliens :p

Your pitiful little United Nations mean nothing to us, and neither do little green men! Prepare for hot atomoization!

NECRO00000000000000,
:necro:
Now this is relevant (original subject matter i mean)
First, Bumblebee, what have they done to him :jaw: Starscream and Megs =   In all, the trailers look fan-bloody-spank-tastic !!
-
Megatron = tank
OptimusPrime = hot rod truck (drawn flames on it)
Some of hte decepticons look really scary..I'd dare say very insecty.. And the trailers decipt a lot of action.
-
I have this feeling that the transformers movie will remind me of I-Robot

that movie was a disgrace.
-
The instant "Do a barrel roll!" got thrown out of the quote contest is the instant I totally affirmed my position to not see this movie.

that's totally not cool.
really. it's not.
-
Don't get me wrong, Its just that i've been subject to the bloody beast wars / energon / cybertron crap for the last ten years and i need something different to quench my transform'o'thirst.
-
Hey! I liked Beastwars. :doubt:
-
Robots turning into animals/dinasurs is stupid as hell....
-
I saw a traler that showed a Chopper land in a military base. Looked pretty decent.
-
Whack "transformers movie trailer" into youtube /( i can't post one due to work related restrictions) But i believe its about five video's down.
A very very cool 2 minute'ish trailer.
-
I have to say that Trailer #4 gave me some hope for the movie. I still dislike the over-greebled way he has all the robots, but I'll see it with an open mind.

ROFL Ovaltine
I just knew this thread got the necro beam as it was from a time i wasn't here...hard to imagine. Idk what's with transformers, it never was exciting. I saw a couple of the cartoons when i was younger, but it wasn't that great. They better have some bad ass stuff in there. Otherwise this is just going to remind me of something monumental like the simpsons movie.
-
geese people, can't you make a proper link (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Zv0fX_n2bGE)
-
*honk honk* ;7
@s-99........................Heretic, you must burn..............Transformers is possibly the greatest ad campaign ever.
The transofmr sound is one of those iconic noises akin to the beam cannon warmup in freespace or grunt chatter in half life that i'll take to the grave. :p

I don't get it??
Geese people???
Anyway you linked to one of many trailers, I linked to them all! :P
-
you were trying to talk about a specific trailer, this is the one that shows the most usefull sceens from the movie.
-

No I wasn't, I was posting the link for Dekker as he couldn't due to his work restrictions. He suggested putting transformers movie trailer into youtube search function and that he would post a link if could but couldn't, so I did it for him.
-
Ok, so, I can't believe nobody's revived the topic, but I just saw Transformers on Thursday.
...Wow. :D
-
Discussion of this movie seems to have moved to this thread (http://www.hard-light.net/forums/index.php/topic,47960.0.html).
-
...Wow.
My reaction exactly when I saw it last week :D Mine was delayed somewhat by having to pick up my jaw from the floor first, though. Doing that took a while :)
-
It was fantastic...I was expecting utter crap and instead I think it was my favourite movie to come out in the summer and this summer has been chalk full of great movies to see. Thats how amazing it was and how good it turned out to be despite my very low expectations. It was fun, it was funny, it had giant robots blowing stuff to pieces, it had AC-130 gunships...damn it was great.
-
Oh yeah, that gunship was wicked!!
-
Gotta go see it myself... :sigh:
-
Yeah, seeing that AC-130 show it's muscle was awesome. ;)
-
For once, I will not be complaining about a major company urinating on the ashes of my childhood.
Hell, I'm going to see it again.
Only complaint was a technical one (they seem to be describing HEAT rather than sabot ammo), and why anything made by the All Spark immediately tried to go on a pyschotic killing spree.
-
I need to see this right away SQUEEeeee.........
and why anything made by the All Spark immediately tried to go on a pyschotic killing spree.
Say it aint so pa............
-
I guess I'm in a group on my own in that I wasn't impressed.
I didn't think it was bad. Just that it could have been a lot better.
-
Great movie! Was plesantly surprised...
One thing kinda bothered me...that the A-10's didn't rip that scorpion decepticon apart...We're taling 30mm Uranium shells man!
-
Yep. A very pretty movie. But it could have been a lot better by being less kiddie.
For instance, I can think of few things more genuinely frightening than a dog-sized evil robot that crawls around and transforms into every day objects so you never know it's there. But not when it's making silly toy noises or acting out some cliched spy moves.
Optimus Prime going "Oops. My bad" kinda killed it a bit for me too.
But the killer mobile phone with built in minigun and rocket launcher made up for them. :D
-
"The humans pheromone levels indicate that he wishes to mate with the female..." That was good too. But all of fighting in the end was absolutely the best!
And for the A10 not riping apart the scorpion, I was kinda guessing its a whittled down version of Scorponok, who in the cartoon was the size of Cleveland!
-

I read the prequel book, ( By Alan Dean Foster, one of my favorite authors) and apparently, Scorponok was damaged and had to be rebuilt smaller.
-
Whats it called, i wouldn't mind reading that before/after i see the Fillum........
-
"Bumblebee, stop lubricating that human!"
*parents coming*
"Hide!"
-
That movie was awesome. LOVED it. Certainly did the show justice, which i remember watching every single day after school RELIGIOUSLY.

Hell of an overhaul if you ask me! But cool none the less, I wouldn't mind reading that book too! I read one of his books way back when, based on the game, THE DIG. Great read.

I lol'd when the auto bots tried to hide at Sam's house. They totally wrecked it XD.

When, i fail with out firefox's built-in spell checker, plus i was doing my project at the same time.
If it helps, I'm a Bumblebee fan. I love how he kicked Barricade's ass. Bumblebee forever.

Optimus rocks...but looks far better with that mask over his mouth..looks kinda "old" without it.
What I don't get is how could ANYONE cover it all up? The battle in the middle of the day on crowded streets wrecked half the city...thousands of people saw them

The prequel is called Ghosts of Yesterday (http://www.amazon.com/Transformers-Ghosts-Yesterday-Ballantine-Books/dp/0345497988/ref=pd_bbs_sr_1/103-0486260-1635032?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1184960132&sr=8-1).
He also did the official movie novelization (http://www.amazon.com/Transformers-Alan-Dean-Foster/dp/0345497996/ref=pd_bbs_4/103-0486260-1635032?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1184960132&sr=8-4).
Foster has a lot of excellent books, you can check them out here (http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/search-handle-url/103-0486260-1635032?%5Fencoding=UTF8&search-type=ss&index=books&field-author=Alan%20Dean%20Foster). His Commonwealth/Pip and Flinx books are some of my favorite books.
Foster even did the SW:ANH novel (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/0345341465/sr=1-8/qid=1184960652/ref=cm_cr_dp_orig_subj/103-0486260-1635032?ie=UTF8&qid=1184960652&sr=1-8), even though he's not credited.
