As reusing an old name.
The GTVI-F Selkie

See? I can still make decent stuff.

we never doubt so:)
btw where the hell are the highlight for this one, bob's deimos and nico's perseus????
btw the very rusty plating gives it an "old/used" aspect, it isn't "bad", actually I like it, but it's somewhat strange.
The plating is also very dark and with low contrast, and it makes me wonder if this could make a bit hard to notice the details in game (well, I guess we'll see that when it'll be converted).
Finally, some lines seem a little pixelated, dunno if it is due to a bit too low res of the textures or by you not using autoaliasing/blur on the diagonal lines in photoshop:p Considering your experience I suppose the first one :)
-
Well, I think the engines a little funny, but barring that, it's a very wll made mesh.
I really should get back into modelling...

I'm trying a new style.... wartorn, I guess. My newest model (Claymore) worked out ok, but I wasn't happy with how 'clean' it looked. I'm still developing it, though - I've gut gunbarrels more or less nailed, but the level of corrosion on fighter hulls is tricky. Especially as I'm having to do it on effectively a per-pixel level (at least, with the brush I'm using there's no blurring), so there's a slight issue with the whole pixellation thing.
Plus I wanted to keep the details deliberately low key and indistinct, it's more realistic IMO. Other thing is that this is bumpmapped, so it's accentuated the graining - specmaps may do the same, but to a lesser degree.

Texture res, yep. Pain in the arse, but it's that or no diagonal lines, so.....
Oh - the Engines have that red ring because it's using Shivan tech. Little odd, granted, but it should work quite well (I hope) with glowmaps in low-light missions. Somewhat of a stab in the dark, in all honesty - the shape is, i think, spindly enough but the cockpit shape wasn't quite how I intended it.
(The yellow lighting may go, though.... not quite the desired effect).

Wow...simply Wow!
BTW is it just me, or does your texture style on this ship look a lot like the on most Alliance ships from StarLancer?

I have no idea - I've never played Starlancer.
Incidentally - non bumpmapped render. Canopy opacity is shot, natch.

EDIT - you may be able to tell - it's a pain in the arse for me to balance the level of detail, without feeling I'm not doing enough.
-
I know that feeling. I keep overdoing detail on maps at times... aggravating.
I like the ship. And the textures look good. I understand why you wouldn't want to, but if you don't mind, could I see your PSD file for the texture? I like to pick up tips here and there. If you say no, I understand completely, as it is alot of hard work.
Either way. Very good. I like it. Alot. The engine is growing on me. :)

Just PM me your e-mail.... I actually have a bunch of backups, so you cna have the 'history' of it if you want. I think I actually restarted the map quite late on.
Oh, and also have pilot / cockpit maps, too. BMP only, though.
-
Very nice :)
-
as always, great work aldo.
...though I should mention, the orange engine bit made baby Jesus cry. They ruin what is otherwise a nearly flawless ship.
-
Nice...
-
I like the ship, but the engine is just something that would make me NOT wanna use/fly/see it. Seriously, orange? i like the whole dark look of the ship but the engines really screw that look up.
-
Just retint them once he releases it :D
@Aldo : That's a damn impressive ship. Is the cockpit model Nico's or your own (Cause it looks somewhat different from his to me).

Mine, did it from scratch... cos, well, I could. Pilot maybe needs a bit more texturing work, tho.
Oh, and the engines are going back to red now - I don't like them either.

True. Pilots are a pain to model AND texture. The pilot I did uses about a 1/4 of the polys on the rest of the craft! And my texturing skills are not good enough ATM to do a good pilot. Yours looks very nice. Impressive texture work on the craft too, though a little dark. But I guess it's characterful. After all, the Pegasus is dark (sorta).
-
Let me just say that that mesh is expertly done. I'm am more than impressed. I am once again jealous. The maps and mapping is so well done on this one... It's not fair. My PC needs more ram... Waaah!

I wouldn't go that far.....
JOKE! JOKE! DON'T HATE ME!!
Actually that's very nice work. I thought wings were a no-no though ? (I happen to like 'em myself)
Would it be possible to make the canopy see-thru ?

Why?

It is / will be.

'cos people always moan "no wings in zero G/ not original/yadda yadda ya"
as I said, I like 'em.
How do you do multiple quotes BTW ?

Considerable use of 'Copy' and 'Paste?;)

oh, cool.

Well, just remind them of the GTD Cube and how appealing would be to fly it into every battle ;)
-
Aldo, i guess it would be impossible to ask you to model something right now?

People who say that seem to forget that in a possible future where space travel is possible, ships need to land and fly in planets aswell! You better have a wing body on your ship, otherwise you´ll drop like a rock! ;7
I like them too. Infact, it seems i can´t get past the jetfighter syndrome whyle modeling! Every model i make seems to look like some funky looking airplane of the 90`s... Maybe i should just model a borg cube instead! :ick:

It would be easily possible to ask. I'd just say no :)
I'm working weekdays, only model / texture / etc at weekends - so no time.
-
What is this model for? Did you have something in mind?
I could pof it real easy for you, if you wanted... (Although I know you know how to do that... unlike Nico...)

are you havin' a pop at him "behind his back" ?:p :D
-
At Nico? No... :p He has an inherant hatred of TrueSpace, and since he doesn't use it, he can't convert his models. Therefore I assume that since he has never done it, he probably wouldn't know how. :p
So there :booty:
-
just checkin':p

Maybe. Depends if a) I finish it and b) i can force myself to draw some very large maps for something else.
EDIT; Nico used to get problems trying to convert with TS, I believe. Some weird localised thing. I can convert with *hack spit* Truespace, but for some reason half the buttons in PCS are corrupted, so i can't actually add paths to models.
-
Very cool. :yes2::nod::yes: The engine hoops are a bit weird, but it's an excellent model. I can't fault it, except to say the gunpoints on the wingtips are going to mean it's got a funny spread when it fires - they're quite far apart. But that's obviously not a serious problem, and it looks great. :)
-
Otherwise I'm lovin' it, but the engines... Well. Let's just say that I find them a bit comical.
-
Don't like the big protruding gun barrels - I prefer the weapons systems to be integrated into a ship's hull almost all the time. The engines look different, but interesting... good model overall I'd say - though you've done better :)
-
Nice, and very unique. I'd just say watch that engine - it _does_ look a bit... cheap.
