Title: Burning FS2 onto 1 DVD
Post by: FoxHound on July 25, 2004, 07:12:21 pm
Is there a smooth way to do it? I know a DVD version did exist, but, i'd like to make a 1 dvd backup from my copy of freespace 2. One that would go through the entire setup without asking for disks and still playing movies if the source code project is not applied. Is such a thing possible?

I tried copying all the freespace CD's into one folder, but, there's one file that gives errors if I do (a tango_1.vp or something like that)

I've do that. I have copied all Datas from the 3 CD's in a Folder and Burn the Files in the Folder on a DVD and have no problems with Videos and CD Change during the installation and in game.

You can always copy the VPs from the hard drive, if you've got a working FS2 install and youcan't read the copies on the original install disks.

All is fine now, I relaized the ISO extraction program i was using (I made ISO's of my fs2 cd's long ago) were shortening the names to 8 characters :)

Would this carry over to a single CD for a lot of the VPs?  Obviously they are not all going to fit, but if you have the HotU download, and got the VPs from the FTP servers, can you now fill up a CD with those, leaving the rest on the HD and have the game work?

Uhm...all you need for FS2 to work is for all the default VPs to be in the packlist (this includes the CD drive) and Freespace 2 installed on a writeable partition. If you have a flashdisk you could copy the fs2_open exes on there, and then burn the VPs to a DVD and have your own portable version of Freespace 2 - although you'd have to run the launcher on each new system.
