Newest picture of the Cassini spacecraft orbiting Saturn:

Full article here: http://saturn.jpl.nasa.gov/cgi-bin/gs2.cgi?path=../multimedia/images/large-moons/images/PIA05423.jpg&type=image
Now, they say it's Saturns moon Mimas....but I think we better get our X-Wings ready anyway. ;)

Every time a sattalite is launched these kind of pictures come in...
For example, this appeared on the website a few days ago;
-
and what's there too see, except some nice sun flares ?

The second I saw that I though Starborn!. Okay they don't look humanoid but if they did I wouldn't bother with trying to figure out how to represent them. That pic would be perfect. :D

If it's not, then God really did leave messages in the stars ;)

nope. it's part of the keyhole nebula. do a google search. every pic you get will have it. cool, huh?
-
That solar flare (I think) pic is amazing! The scary part is that it looks like it's got eyes and is looking down and to the left. :)
-
I thought it was supposed to be a hand reaching out of the sun...
Meh. I've seen more better effects.
-
woooooooooow

What is that flare meant to look like? I can't make it out. :nervous:
-
It's like looking at clouds ;)
Personally, I can see something that looks similar to the bad guys' death scene in Terminator 2 :D
-
Proof that speech declines with sleep.
Jus' y'all wayet 'til ah staut taulkin laike uh gawsh-dauhned yankeh! :p
Productive comment: You can sort of see the Tau'ri symbol from Stargate in it; the two legs are on the left, the big dot on the right.
-
Maybe the lady with the axe will enllighten us, what she sees in it ?
-
Hmmmmmmmm... Apparently, Titan is most likely covered by lakes of ethane and methane.
No Smoking planet I take it? ;)
-
Looks like hell
-
Nice pictures, the first one takes after the Death Star.
The second one(described as DEVIL! by Dark_4ce) should be used as a logo for any game projects relating to hell(Italian and Latin name as Inferno :p).
-
Just needs : Freespace : Inferno in the bottom right corner ;)

Phoenix. It's actually a marketing plot by the makers of X-Men 3. :p

Stylised version

You should be able to see it now :D
EDIT : Just to give you a sense of scale that entire flare is much bigger than the Earth. :D
-
It looks as if the Devil had shields.
-
PHOENIX! :D
-
a flower...

Netu?
The picture has only confused me further, when I first looked at it it seemed like a hand, but now it looks like it might be a person falling backwards into lava, but that doesn't seem to be what everyone's getting at. :wtf:
It must be like one of those anagram thingies, turn it one way and you see an ugly old lady, turn it the other and you see an apple.
-
Lock x-foils in attack position.
-
It's S-Foils IIRC.:)
Besides, I'll just ready my A-Wing and fly ahead of you X-Wing jockeys to keep the TIEs busy. :)
-
WMCoolmon: it's supposed to be a Phoenix, the mythical bird that dies and is reborn in a burst of flame or some variation thereof. It's a little hard to make out, yes, but I'd imagine it's some part of an animation, where its form would make much more sense. Oh, and it's supposed to be coming out of the sun (note the plasma and curvature of the surface). Though I'm not quite sure what one would do about a phoenix 15 earth diameters in height.
-
so the sun said to mercury: pull my finger

Sorry, no A-Wings in the DeathStar I era.....you'd probably just crash in the bridge anyway ;)
-
The X-Wing game says otherwise. :D
Don't underestimate the nastiness of an A-Wing. They're the only things that can catch TIE interceptors and match them for speed and agility. Okay, so the shields suck and the craft only has a pair of lasers, but they're more than capable of tying up TIEs. :)

...
The A-wing was developed after the Battle of Yavin. Believe me. Do not think about X-wing, it is stupid in this way.
Quote from www.starwars.com:
The Alliance brain trust of General Jan Dodonna and engineer Walex Blissex developed the A-wing starfighter after examining the role of speed in the Battle of Yavin and the sleek fighters developed by the Tamuuz-an. The top-secret result of their experimentation was the A-wing, the fastest vessel of the Galactic Civil War.
Super-official information, staffmate! Total headshot. :D
-
Meh.........at least an X-Wing is better than the Die-Wing.......
Still not fast enough for me. Nor as agile as I'd like......
Hey, I'm an irredeemable A-Wing Speed Demon! :D

Our flying styles do not appear to be differing.
-
You're an A-Wing jockey too? :D
I thought we were an endangered species.....:nervous:

Ah, cheers. Man, that sort of stuff though - seriously, it never ceases to amaze me.
-
Mmmm... A-Wings.... Tho the B-Wing was cool too. But always been quite partial to the E-Wing myself.
-
I'm quite happy in my TIE Defender, thank you.

I knew it wasn't quite right. :p

That's okay.
Though don't ask if it's 'strike foils' or 'stabiliser foils.' :D

I know. It's always nice to see pictures of Jupiter and then realise that Earth could fit in the red spot or see pics of the sun compared to the Earth.
Human brains aren't equipped to actually understand how big those things are on a real level. You can know it in your head all you like but I'll bet even astronomer have occasional "That star is REALLY big" moments. :D

Talking about REALLY BIG...check out the size comparisons on the lower left:
Betelgeuse is one the biggest stars known.
-
That's the sort of thing I'm on about. You may know that as a fact but it's hard to physically comprehend how big that actually is.
If you were actually seeing Betelgeuse close up then you might actually get it :)
It's sort of a reflection of the way that you only realise how big the Grand Canyon or things like that are when you're actually there. Even TV doesn't actually give you the sense of scale.
But yeah. Betelguese is big. Although the sun will swell up to the size of Earths orbit in a few billion years itself.
-
Imagine Betelgeuse in our solar system. You had to be on one of saturn's moons to be actually outside of the star......and it would fill an awful lot of the sky....damn I'd love to see that.
-
Theres another star in Orion, called Rigel, which, whilst not as big as Betelgeuse, because it's a mainstream star, not a Red Giant, has so much mass it stands a small chance of going supernova. Now THAT's something I'd like to see, though not from too close ;)

Since when can the Ares carry Cyclops? Though I'll take it anyway. Kaysor/Maxim, 36 Harpoons and 80 Tornadoes. That exhaust port is going DOWN.
-
:nervous: The only fighter that carries bombs that I'm aware of is the Myrmidon. Carries Helios warheads. :)
Btw, welcome to HLP, varus. ;)
:welcome:
-
yah but if you modify the tables i bet.... :D
btw my location is a description of a place in star wars
