Post by: Svizel on July 29, 2004, 01:35:43 pm
I tried to register on SCP Mantis 3 times alredy but still didn't got the mail with password. I used login name "Svizel" and e-mail "[email protected]" which is working normaly (i even registered with it here on HLP forum). It's more than 36 hours from first registration attempt... Pls could anyone with admin rights on Mantis send me the password manually?

Well, if the search function turns up results that old, I think it's perfectly acceptable to make a new thread. Or use the "Use Mantis to report Bugs" (http://www.hard-light.net/forums/index.php/topic,34786.0.html) sticky, in this particular case.

And if you can't get a mantis registration, post the bug report here, where everyone can see it.

Who exactly is responsible for administrating the Mantis site?  We've known for a long time that there's a bug often preventing registration of new accounts, but if it continues to go unfixed, there's not much point in instructing people to utilize it to report the issues they're having.

the problem really comes when the confirmation email gets blocked, there's no way to tell the mantis server to resend those emails after new users realize they need to add an exception to their spam filter. what it should do is send 3 emails over the course of several days, and after that free up the user name so that they can retry to sign up.

No-one really, But updating the SCP Mantis has been on portej's to-do-list quite a while now.

. . . I did write the procedure, but someone with keys needs to go along and actually do it (although, the current version has changed since I wrote those instructions, so we'll need to go through the whole fire it up in a VM and work through the process thing again)

Goober, I'd like an account too since I constantly run into bugs while fredding for WCS.
Missions not loading and so on (the current one gives me a "malloc failed", just great  )

I think what results in most of the mail lost problems is that a lot of ISP's require the return path and the origin of the mail to be the same or they just delete them as spam.   Since the return path is:  <[email protected]> and the origin is:   scp.indiegames.us any server these emails pass through with spam filters just toss them.  Doesn't matter if you have a filter or you ISP does but any along the line can trash these.  I know my ISP put out an announcement about doing this a few years ago.  I have my own mail server so I don't have the issue but I'm guessing if I didn't the same thing would happen to me.

Excellent suggestion!  I've edited the config file; somebody try registering again.

What did you change it to?  I think it was changed to game-warden because the indigames mail sever was too old resulting in even worse behavior.  That's been awhile ago so I don't remember the details.

It's currently set to nothing, which means it will probably use the indiegames server.  I can also try setting it to the indiegames server specifically.  There might be additional options available after we upgrade Mantis.

Won't make a difference.  Try registering again; I changed the email options again.
