Hello,
since I have now downloaded the newest FRED and the new exe-version
without the memory-leak, I'm really getting happy ;) (thanks for all
the work guys !)
But I still have one big problem, but I don't think that is a bug,
otherwise it should have been posted more often. It must be related
to my system.
Normally when I run the game, I'm using these flags :
-glow -jpgtga -fps -ambient_factor 100
(not much, but enough for me)
I have extrem problems with those particles that a damaged ship
spits out. I have this problem since the first release of 3.6, never before.
I'm playing with nearly 100 FPS, and still 50 FPS when a huge battle
is going on between capships. But even in a mission, where it is only
me and one or two enemy fighters, my framerate is dropping below
10 when a particle-spitting fighter is in my view
So what is going on here ? Is there a new particle-code in 3.6 ? If
so, how can I deactivate it, it is making the game unplayable for me.
Or maybe I'm missing some files ???? I haven't downloaded any
media-stuff, only retail FS particles should be used (if there are
pcx-effects)
Could someone give me a hint, this is driving me crazy !
Thank you.
My system (not perfect, but never had this problem mentioned)
P4 2,0 GHz, 512 MB RAM,
WIN98 SE, G4 TI 4200 64 MB

I think everyone has the same problem. I vaguely remember someone talking about redoing the particles....

thorn: bob, he's on it along with shadows

maybe I should put in the point sprite batching thing I did as a temporary fix untill I get the new system working.

That would be great Bobboau.
If possible, pls combine with kazan's/taylor's build, I need that autopilot :)

autopilot and taylor's fixes are both in the cvs
