Title: Mission not working (Could use some help)
Post by: Airborne on July 30, 2004, 11:34:10 am
In the Freespace 2 mod section, missions subsection, I downloaded the midway zip. It's just a vp file and I stuck it under the Freespace 2 directory but nothing comes up when I start FS2. What am I doing wrong? :wtf:

Uhm.

If it's a campaign, you should go to the campaign room and select it.

But if there is anything in your /freespace/data/tables/ dir it will overrull the VP, breaking the campaign.

Be sure to make a new pilot.

Are you using FSO?

FSO doesn't work for me, I have it, but it crashes every time I try running it. If you look at this midway file it says it's a two part mission, which I assume means it's not a campaign but I guess I'll have to check. I do have some tables from the "Warzone" campaign in there. I guess I'll remove them momentarily and replace them when I'm done.

Airborne. Check my FAQ's Directory Structure pages. That will show you how to install multiple mods without them conflicting.

Well, I just tried what you said, and nothing came up. Made a new pilot, took out the tables, checked the campaign room, and I even checked the mission simulator, but nothing came up.

get vpview, extract what's in the .vp to the data folder and play it that way... never trust evil vps... ;)

I have vpview downloaded but the installer doesn't want to open for some reason. It makes the hour glass picture telling me it's loading, and yet, nothing happens.

What are all these files in the missions folder that say "Backup.001" "Backup.002" and so on and so forth?

backup.001-009 etc are backup mission files created by Fred2, nothing to worry about

no idea why vpview won't install for you, never heard of such a problem

Make sure the mission simulator is set to missions and not campaign misions... By default I think its set to campaign. Might be the problem, dunno.

Yeah, I had already checked. Thanks anyways. I'm not exactly an FS2 newbie.

The mission simulator won't display any missions that are part of a campaign, so you won't see any of them there unless you delete the campaign file.  It should show up in the campaign room under the stock FS2 campaign, and quite honestly I'm not sure I know of any reasons that it wouldn't be there.

Of course if it's just a mission, it won't be in the campaign room.  Make sure the thing you loaded is a .vp and is located in your root FS2 install folder.

It very well says that it's a .vp file and it's under my FS2 directory. It doesn't show up anywhere. Why don't one of you guys download it real quick and try it out? It's a small file, only about 24 kbs. Just go to the main hardlight site, go under Freespace 2 mods>missions and click on midway.

Hey thanks. I haven't actually entered the mission yet but I saw the briefing and it looks like everything is working out okay. I'll try out the mission in a bit. Once again, thanks Cetanu.
