Nice system but I have still more Ram (3GB ram :p but similar system to mine:
Mine
P4 3.2 ghz
3gb ram
Radeon 9800XT
you have nice specs playing lot games Turambar:yes:
-
Except he has a 3.2e. I hate to rain on your parade, but a 3.2C would actually be faster =(
Other than that, :jawdrops:
-
the 1 gig of DCDDR, do you have two 512 MB sticks?
-
Aaaaaaaagh! P4! :p
-
Nice system Turambar, the only thing I'm opposed to is the choice of cpu. I'm an AMD supporter, I think the name speaks for itself :p

Why would you want so much ram? unless your profession or interest requires that. I've only got 1gig of ram and I don't even use 50% a lot of the time.

I sincerely question your choice of Prescott (3.2E) and 1GB RAM DIMMs. If you insisted on going Intel, Northwood is far superior. And 1GB RAM DIMMs are just slow (512MB are far faster).
-
Considering that he said dualchannel ddr, that means it's probably two sticks of 512.
And seriously, a 3.2C (i.e. northwood) would be a way better choice than the 3.2e. It's not as hot AND it's faster AND it's cheaper.
-
Sorry about that, the 3GB of RAM was from HIGs list.

Sorry for bumping this to the top, but how did you get that 6800 GT? What was the price? I have been looking for one of these for a few weeks now and can't find one in stock at MSRP anywhere. The BFG package seems to be the rarest of them all too, although the cards themselves are pretty similar. I generally don't like preordering anything since you get stuck with that order even if it takes longer than expected or if you find a better deal in the meantime, but I will do that if there is no other option. The X800 XTPE is also one I would consider but that is even harder to find at MSRP. I remember seeing a few places selling them for around $460 a week ago and would have jumped on one if they didn't all have long backorders.
I also upgraded the memory to 1GB (two 256s and one 512), just yesterday in fact.
I've heard that some newer games (UT2004, Doom3 and of course FS2 open, which is currently a real memory hog) run considerably more smoothly with that much and the normal 3-3-3-8 pc3200 modules are relatively cheap anyway. I upgraded to 1GB too (two 256s and one 512), just yesterday in fact. Haven't noticed any difference yet, but I am still using a Geforce 3 and sticking to low quality settings until I can find one of the new video cards.

you have to get the geforce 6800 GT OC from the BFG website, www.bfgtech.com

and that's what i'm asking. a lot of people think dual channel DDR is a feature of the motherboard, and that you can just stick a 1GB stick in there and be done.

Another way to get a 6800 GT is go to www.gameve.com and take your pick. EVGA, PNY, and XFX are all at about MSRP, with the BFG a bit higher.

That link looks pretty good but there is no ETA date. Did the chumbo guys give you any estimate?

Well, that particular site doesn't have good feedback on pricewatch and some other places.
I think the eVGA website takes orders directly from that company and gives an ETA date (although who knows how accurate that is), so maybe I will just go for that. I hate preorders but it seems that it's the only way to get one of these cards.

I remember when I could do that. :(

Version 3.8 of SCP. :p
