Engine ideas needed.
Also needed are ideas for greebling, like side armor plating or something. C'mon people! Help! Criticize! Whatever!
just look at me!!!!! I mean... err... my model...! Look at my model!!!
-
If it's for the GTVA... Cut down on the smoothness. :p
-
Screw the GTVA. Let's pretend it's for another universe.
-
Well if you want to do just one engine you can have that engine end indent or well in i think that might be an intresting effect/design for the engine. Hmm all I can really think of right now, defintly looks intresting so far keep it up :)
-
You could make it like the Hades or a star destroyer. I like the 3 engine design of a star destroyer.
-
I actually intend to add an engine to the bottom fin/wing. One on both sides. Kinda like the Hecate may have if I'm remembering it correctly.
But the main body needs something. I tried PoA type engines, but they looked funny on this ship.
-
Slight Update. I decided it needed the bottom engines. I also put engines on the back. And I flattened and widened the small ridge up top. I intend to put some sleek turretry up there. Maybe missile launchers, or something. :) When i learn to make turrets, that is... :p

-
Wow!!!!! Nice!!!! I wish i could do this, too. For texturing i would prefer a dark look. Metallic with lots of little window-glowmaps. So the vessel could look really huge.
-
I dont like the engines on the bottom.... They look out of place.
-
I would maybe spice up the flanks of the rear part - they look a tad blank, but then again I go for flat and chunky instead of tall and smoooooth, so :) .
But I'm really liking it. Make it different. If you like to stuck it into FS universe, make it some Vasudan destroyer - more like corvette, actually.
Or something really big. We need more "ZOMG 98 kilometers in lenght!!!1" thingies.
-
...Err. No. :p At most this ship'll be 3.5 Km if I even decide to make it that big. :p
I need to model some turrets for it. Since I just finished the body work. Once I start turretting I'll post more screenies, but I need to either make or find a turret model first.
Anyone have any donations? :p
-
Engines should be roughly equal in length to what you've already got, centralized as one long cylinder with magnetic accelerator coils distanced along the length.
Kinda like a tube through a bunch of donuts.
Anti-matter drive.
What can I say? I like BIG engines. ;7
-

-
i like it, i like it alot, dunno why but im thinking of a vasudan iceni. maybe smooth the engines at the bottom into the fin a bit more. And possibly an extra layer of plating along the spine and up the upper fin, with a little recess for some small windows.
Looks great thou mate.
-
I'd add some large long nailed hecate-style fins to the nose, starting from the bottom section and pointing downward/backward
add some segments here and there to break the plain sections
-
I'd have semi recessed engine pods a'la Starbug
-
What can I say? I love it.
-

I've done a few little changes that may or may not stay. Mainly a large docking bay on the bottom. It's more than large enough to let an Argo trough, should this be destroyer sized, but if it's corvette sized, it'll be in proportion.
Also, I've put ridges on the back end. They need more work, if I decide to keep them.
And lastly, there's a turret test for ya'. I dunno how well they work on this ship. I'm thinking the double armed ones are big beams, the single armed ones are aaaf and the like, and the flat boxes are missile launchers. With regular plasma turrets being added later.
I don't know how I feel about these turrets yet, though. And they are high poly.
-
Looks fantastic. Those turrets on the top ridge, though... whenever I look at them, I can't help seeing some guys holding their hands, having just gotten their heads chopped off. Put them in battle position or something. :D
-
Perhaps little spheres between the arms? ;)
-
That would just be asking for it. ;)
"Hey look Alpha 1, check out these little guys stuck on this destroyer's hull. Heheh, they look so funny... look, this one's pointing at me... they're all pointing at me! Uhhh, I mean... uh-oh."
-
Nah. I intend to use those for the larger beam weaponry. The little HLP-logo shaped disc turrets will be for anti-fighter support. ;D
-
dude... nice ship first of all, but what we need is.. is.. an HLP ship! a big capship with the HLP logo painted on the side, or at least a reskin of the Orion w/ The Logo™ (which would be hard with tiling textures and all)
-
:V: has there ship
:HLP: needs there's ;7
-
reminds me of the big cruisers from the original I-War
-
Oy Raa, I love you more with each day that passes ;)
-
what he said, with less of a homosexual refrence.
-

In effort to reduce the poly count of the turrets (Which were horrendously High) I've come up with this. I'm not exactly thrilled about them, but how well would FS_open run with a 3k ship, with another 3k worth of turrets on it? Unless you can convince me the hit is worth the visual appeal. ;) I'll have to keep refining this lower poly one...
-
Fantastic job looking good :)
-
go for the lower poly, the higher one is a waste
-
(http://3dap.com/hlp/hosted/14_year_war/Raa/WIPt2.jpg)
Ok. Hopefully it'll be too hard to tell that those turrets are now less than half the poly count of the originals. And I made the double-armed ones into actual 2-parters, because they do look funny, as I had them planned, as a single part turret with two stabilizer arms.
Critiques?
-
It actually looks pretty good - this for Ferrium, or FS2?
Oh, and...
-
Why does it have to be big? It'd be a nice corvette.
-
Size down turrets, paste more on it and you got the Vasudan Juggernaught people want that long.
-
With this size of turrets that ship could be nice vasudan corvette:yes:
-
How many turrets are protecting the engine and the rump of the ship?
... just thinking.
This would be a nice heavy corvette (something like a beefed-up Sobek).
-
Looking very good. But yes, if it's gonna be destroyer-sized, those ventral-mounted missile launcher thingies should be a bit smaller.
-
Raa, I think that mesh is in a pretty satisfactory state. Needs some textures, dude. :)

*thunk* ever heard of a homosexual shivan?
You need some professional help. :)
-
Thanks guys. I'm not completely sure where I'm going with this. Either Light destroyer (1.8 Km) or Corvette (1.5 Km). Or maybe I will say screw it and make a Juggernaught. There aren't any Vasudan ones, even if the Terran ones have been done to death.
And I'm sorry to say I don't really get that 'brainzzzz' reference that everyone's using... :nervous: Probably from a show I wasn't watching when I was younger, eh?
-
It's a zombie thing (notice how zombies always have their arms outstreched?)
At 1.5km you might want to think about calling it a frigate rather than a corvette too.
-
Vasudanswuvfishies, and Vasudanswuvbrainz.
-
Looks like a hecate precursor, but I like it :)

Ah. It makes sense now. And the picture is funny now. :p
Anywho. Maybe 1 KM?
If I make it too large, then the massive fighterbay on the underneath will become a huge space-dock. :p
If It becomes Juggy sized, it'll be big enough to launch cruisers... >.>
LS: I though Vasudanswuvheadz? :p
-
I think the 800m-1.2km range sounds about right. I'd avoid making up a new class for it unless it has some distingusihing features about it, personally. And don't make it a jugg, the engine block is way too big for that.
That said, if it goes to corvette, what happens to the fighterbay? Does it become a single wing hanger like the Moloch, or does it get removed altogether?
-
Uhh... I'm keeping it.
So perhaps a single, or maybe 1 bomber wing, 1 fighter wing.
-
800m would be nice.
-
800 m ship with hangar like is on picture is too smal. 4 bomber wing will not place flying it out.
-
Small? Ever walk 800m? Trust me, 800 is a lot of meters.
-
Considering that the Ursa is 50m long it is actually a little cramped but if you have fighters stationed on board that would work better.
A corvette shouldn't be launching bombers anyway.
-
I truly believe I am doing this model a horrible injustice.
These textures don't look bad. But they need alot better UV mapping than I think I'm capable of giving it with my limited attention spa..err.. I mean time I spend working on it.
-
make the texture with those big squares on it more tiled...it comprimises the size somewhat...well...to me that is...
It's awesome looking so far Raa!
...reminds me of the Hades somewhat...a vasudan super destroyer maybe?
-
It looks... dangerous, but in a kind of subtle, curvy Vasudan way.
-

Indeed. ****ing bleh.

Keep telling yourself that. I'd try Sobek or Hat textures if I were you. Or if you wanted to get crazy, Mentu. That just looks... ack.
-
:ick: yak
you realy could use Sobek or Hat texstures
-
Actually i think those Typhon textures fit the ship pretty good....at least better than the honey-comb-tiles-of-death. Of course completely new textures would look even better.
Keep it up
-
I'm sick of those strange plated tiles. I like the Typhon textures. And I think that if I do it right, it will look really good. The hard part is doing it right, though. ;)
-
you could try to replace texstures:
capital03-01 place where is capital03-01 and where was capital03-01 put one of sobek or hat main texstures.
-
The problem see with the Typhon maps is that they look like Arcadia textures color-shifted to brown. If this thing had a complex shape that hid the repetitions (as the Typhon does from most angles) and the plating lines somehow followed the lines of the ship, then they would work. But for the organic-looking nose, something else is in order. I think it calls for a custom map, personally, though I can certainly sympathize with the lack of time/ability to do one.
-
Raa you can do better texture work ;)
and don't use Typhon texture
-
Those textures make me wanna puke
Why not use Terran and Vasudan textures, and make it a 2 specied-destroyer, unlike the other "2 specied-ship", the Colossus
-
c914: No. I don't want to use Sobek, Hatshepsut, nor Mentu textures. They are irritating after a while of the same repetitions. I tried it already.
Kie: Because it's my ship :p But seriously, Terran and Vasudan don't usually mix too well.
Stratt: If I knew the first thing about how a texture should look to be sufficiently Vasudan, but not a bunch of tiles, I'd do so. I was considerring UV mapping some portions and tiling others... I may still.
I'll play around with it later, when I'm done fooling with the fighter I made to complement it.
-
your u.v.in' doesn't look that bad. You should see some of my efforts...
-
This is really the first time I'm trying to texture using 3dMax instead of TrueSpace.

Try using the UVUnwrap modifier to lineup the edges of maps - it's hella useful. For many things. ;)

Those two small engines in down side don't fit Vasudan-style ship.
-
I don't care.
-
It could be a Terran design influence.
-
This things profile realy reminds me of the hades.
-
I like it, but definately NOT Hades-esque.
IF you want to see a Hades-esque model try the GTD Saturn!
As for those terran-like bottom engines, maybe the GTVA had a yard sale and the Vasudans thought it was a good deal...
Regardless it still works, now hurry up and finish texturing it so we can see the final result! ;)
-
*BUMP*[/color]
Here's the current state. The pinkish bits have been UV mapped to a texture. The rest hasn't been yet. Soon, I hope, since UV mapping is pretty easy.
Anyway, I just wanted to point out I hadn't forgotten it.
-
What happened to the turrets???
-
I took them off whilst I texture the ship...
-
Canna wait Canna wait!
