Title: Revival: DaBrains High Res WIPs (image heavy!)
Post by: DaBrain on August 01, 2004, 05:39:55 pm
Ok, don't blame me for being lazy in the last days, but the weather was just too good to sit at the PC ;)

I worked a bit on the support ship. (~65-70% finished)
Might take a while to complete it.
I'd like to hear your oppinion.

I'd say it's coming along rather nicely. I have a few issues with the map, but it's only at 75% so I'll keep quiet, as I'm sure they'll be worked out later.

Very nice :) I really like what you've done with the lights.

Now I don't have to squint every time i look up when getting rearmed hehe.

Cheers!

Looks really nice. I like the hires cockpit shine. Looks way better. The shlightly changes in color are quite pretty, too. Nice work.

My only comment on it, besides the usual much-improved bit, is that you've changed the ammo in the bottom where it docks to a fighter.  Those are supposed to be missiles IIRC.

the panel lines are more defined, more gritty worn out look,  looking very good so far!

I like, I like.

The support ship especially, its quite an improvement. The Herc 2 doesn't show all that much, though I'm on a darker monitor so it may be that. Keep up the good work.

I know. It's still supposed to be missiles :wtf:

@ Turambar I can see the improvment on the herc 2. Looks like a cleaned map with redrawed lines. Now go for the detail ;)
Edit: I think you should remove the lights... The green parts in the map were not supposed to be lights.

Nice.  cockpit map needs fixed (at the edges, and specifically the alignment of the rim on the front section vs the sides)

i got some texture on this one, but i still need to redo the grill and fix some alignments.  I'm also pitching some thruster glows here

no, im currently on the built-in 32bit intel graphics card because my FX 5600 is currently running the display on my new rig.  I'll be running a 6800 GT once that one's up, but right now, my current graphics card is on par with a GeForce 2

Edit: the map is 1024x1024

I'll release a lower res map for the mediaVP lite version.
Does a PCX map take up less Ram than a TGA one does ?

Question for you, how to you take the clean screen shots?  With no hud or anything..............  ?
Title: Revival: DaBrains High Res WIPs (image heavy!)
Post by: StratComm on August 02, 2004, 12:37:24 pm
That's done with the external camera ('.' or '/' on the numeric pad, though I can't remember which one's for the chase cam and which actually takes you to external view.  Though I think there is a way to take a clean screenshot, it doesn't come to mind right now.

Yes, because FS2open only supports PCX files with 256 colours.

Post by: DaBrain on August 02, 2004, 02:53:27 pm
But if I use "-pcx32 -jpgtga", it makes no difference, right ?
Title: Revival: DaBrains High Res WIPs (image heavy!)
Post by: Taristin on August 02, 2004, 06:12:13 pm
pcx32 is crap. it just uses more memory, it doesn't enable 32-bit pcx's.
Title: Revival: DaBrains High Res WIPs (image heavy!)
Post by: Lightspeed on August 02, 2004, 06:21:31 pm
pcx32 owns. It allows each PCX to have its own palette - resulting with an incredible increase in visual quality for interface graphics. It does NOT, however, allow 32-bit PCX files (which technically isn't even possible becuase PCX doesnt support alpha channels).
Title: Revival: DaBrains High Res WIPs (image heavy!)
Post by: Taristin on August 02, 2004, 06:24:32 pm
It's a memory hog. The slowdown is far greater than the 'improved visuals' recieved...
Title: Revival: DaBrains High Res WIPs (image heavy!)
Post by: DaBrain on August 02, 2004, 06:32:31 pm
Well, I know FS2_open doesn't support 32-bit PCX files.
But I thought -pcx32 would load them into memory in 32-bit colors.

This line was described quite good somewhere. I just can't find it...
Title: Revival: DaBrains High Res WIPs (image heavy!)
Post by: Taristin on August 02, 2004, 06:44:56 pm
That is how it is. PCX32 loads pcx's into 32-bit memory. But the performance hit is not worth the gain, most of the time.

Not to mention that some people like me get a bug where by all the buttons move left and up one pixel leaving a blue line behind.

Might as well replace everything with TGA versions. Oh. That's what this thread is alll about :D

Title: Map preview
Post by: DaBrain on September 04, 2004, 03:57:08 am
I wonder if I can finish it today... Somehow it still looks like much work.

If you want any changes, tell me now. It might be the last chance.

(I'll work on the lines, and on the pipes(or what ever it's supposed to be ;7. The biggest pipe-part is already done.)

Both images 80% quality.

You can already use it if you want to.

(80% quality, old, bicubical risized)

(80% quality, new. Most parts done.)

Sure, I'd love to see it with your shine maps.

I'm afraid I'm putting too much effort in each single map. It just takes to long to finish them...

Well, I think it's ok for the support ship, as you see it very often, and close ups too. :)

So I'll take my time, rushing things now would just reduce the quality.

Oh, I'll fix up those Orion texxies for in-game use once you have them ready :)

I have the Hygeia maps - I'll do some minor improvements before I include them, though.

Sure, if it's not the red (or blue) lines. ;) They are not visible on the model.

Edit: And btw I'm not whether I should work on the Orion maps, cause we could texture the unwraped high poly Orion...
That is preferable performance-wise.

Edit: Release and updates on page two!

Here the Orion maps, which are already complete.
The other maps will follow. (Don't know how long it will take though)

No shots. As they look exactly as in the last pictures.

the head on booster shot really looks daunting...
also thruster glo mayb a little too bright/big there - it gets to the stage where it stops looking powerful and just ends up obscuring the rest of the model
