Title: Red Alert
Post by: InfernoGod on August 01, 2004, 07:56:59 pm
I need some help. I've got a mission in subspace, with an Orion and a Lucifer. The next mission is a red alert mission, and the Orion and Lucifer won't carry over, even though I've selected red alert carry status. I'm so confused... some help please?

Since I don't know the specifics...

Make sure you've selected the 'carry over' flag for th the ships in the 'first' mission, and not the 'second' mission.  (Second mission being the 'red alert' mission.)

The names of both ships are the same in both missions.

You have the necessary 'red-alert' activating SEXP in your first mission and the required link in the campaign editor.

At the moment nothing else comes to mind, but if the above is not enough I'm sure more knowledgeable individuals will be able to help you.

I've only used the red-alert thing a couple of times many years ago so I don't quite remember what I did.

kv's advice sounds pretty accurate. The only thing I'll add is to ask if you are playing in the tech room. Things won't work there.

are you linking them in a campaign? if they aren't linked, and you play it seperately, nothing'll happen...

Yes, put both missions in a campaign.
An other problem may be that one or both ships jump out in the first mission.

true... they must be there when the mission red-alerts at the end, else stuff gets screwy..

that is very much the problem.  the carry over status for a ship that jumps out is that it is no longer there.

in other words the ship must be present at the end of the mission in order to be carried over.

I'm guessing since you say that, that you wanted to have the ships jump out at the very end of the mission.

Although it doesn't affect you if you want to have the ships jump out in the middle of the mission and be there later on it is possible to do this by recording the status of the subsystems in persistant variables and then writing them back in at the start of the mission.

Obviously the bigger the ship the more variables you'll need making it a pain to use with anything bigger than a cruiser but the option is quite useable for small craft :)
