So some of you may remember the thread a few weeks ago on the 1974 cadillac that i was purchasing for $600.00.
Well everything was going fine, i paid $300.00 about two weeks ago, and then sent the second $300.00 a few days ago. Well he received it on Saturday (should have anyway)... My dad had to go up to Florida on business, and he was going to fly there and fly back, but since the car was up there he decided to go up, and drive the car back. Now the interesting thing is, through this whole deal i was never able to speak to the owner of the car on the phone. I spoke to his wife, his brother, but never him, I only communicated with him over email... so i should've smelled a rat there, but i didn't.
So my dad calls on Friday, and says he'd like to speak to the owner (to ask questions like, is the car in the right condition to be driven 1000 miles, etc.). The wife picks up. She says her husband's in and out, and can't talk. My dad says this isn't buying a baseball card or anything, it's the sale of a car, it's a big deal, and he'd like to speak to the owner.
Saturday afternoon the wife calls back and says that her husband doesn't want to deal with me or my dad. she then hangs up.
So i emailed the guy and said I expect to receive the $600.00 within a week... he says he'll send it "at his convenience", but i doubt i'll ever get it, because he originally wanted me to pay the $600.00 as soon as possible (i had to borrow $300 of it), because he needed it for "another project" he had going.
Anyway, haven't been able to contact him since, not via email or phone, so i'm going up there to try to speak to him personally.

Ouch. Call the polis?
-
fortunately for me i've saved every email and recorded every phone call to and from him.
it wouldn't be too hard to take him to court for fraud. the hardest part would be because it's between two different states, that makes it a lot harder :/
One of my dad's good friends is a Captain in the police force, pretty high up in the ranking, my dad's going to ask him to get one of his buddies to go to the guy's house in Florida and just ask him what's going on, let him know what could happen if he doesn't pay, etc.
-
[color=66ff00]Sounds like you've got your bases covered Stealth, as for this guy keeping the money until it's convienient, your dad's cop friend should make 'immediately' seem convienient.

Take him to small claims court. You've got an open and shut case there. He'll probably end up having to pay court fees as well and I doubt they'd let him get around to that "When it's convienient" ;)

Real Cases. Real People. Judge Judy.
You'd be a shoe in :p

We get her over her in the UK too. My mum's quite a fan.

yeah it's all starting to make sense now.
but do you get all the other "Judge" shows? like judge Joe Brown, etc.?
Anyway yeah, if he still doesn't pay the $600, i'll definately take him to small claims court
-
call him up and tell him that your father, Don Giovanni, is not pleased that his new car hasn't come yet, and that he'd rather not have to send big Louie up to "persuade" him to change his mind.
-
I've never seen the other shows except when I've been in America.
In the UK JJ appears at about 4 in the morning unless you've got cable (in which case they put her in the daytime TV slot I always catch my mum watching)
What we do suffer from is a glut of the other Jerry Springer/Sally/My husband beats me so I'm taking him on national TV so I can show the whole world what an idiot I am.
I suppose one small advantage of the Judge Judy program is that they do show how simple small claims court is. Lots of people just sit and fume when crap like what happened to you goes on cause they think it's not worth going to court because of lawyers fees.
-
What, no Dr.Phil? You Brits really are uncultured ;) ;)
I say get your dad to pay him a visit on his business trip, and if the guy doesn't want to hand it over, take him to court. There's still a chance you could get your car.
BTW, you record your phonecalls? I've never heard of anyone outside the mob/Government (or am I repeating myself?) do that.
-
all important calls, like, say... calls about, say, making arrangements to pick up a car i just bought! i recorded for reference, in case i forgot a detail. apparently it's a good thing i did

You should also be aware than in some states its illegal to record phone conversations without the consent of the other party.
-
oooh yeah that's right!
well then if it does go to court, i'll not mention that, just in case.

You can also look it up in the lawbooks to see whether or not its legal. It should be available online.
-
Well that does suck but you'll probably get your money back. It might be illegal for phone recordings but you've got the emails and that should be enough.
-
you actually trusted his word? always get a written "contract" type thingy bud
-
Texas Justice is by far the best.
And Stealth, No offense, but you really ought to have talked to the guy over the phone before going around sending money off to people...
-
yeah well i mean i'd talked to his wife and his brother, and i'd corresponded with him over email for months, and someone i know said he's a good guy, so i guess i just trusted him. he said as soon as he receives the money he'd send the title over, and i thought... well... he wouldn't screw me over $600 would he?
my mistake ;)

Go to his house and beat his ass with a sportsmans baseball bat, and then take his money...
At least thats how all the REAL gangsters did it...
-
or maybe he'll wake up with a horse's head next to him in the bed :drevil:
-
Or better yet, he'll wake up with a whole horse in his bed... and photocopies of photographs of him in 'obscene' poses with said horse.
Then have the pictures sent to a local newspaper...
Or atleast that's how it happened in some show I saw a while back...
-
LOL poor horse to be put through all that.
