Another step closer to the final release :)

Full previews, as always, in the Milliways gallery.
Nebula pack #06 with tables & test mission (http://www.penguinbomb.com/lightspeed/FS2_Nebula_Backgrounds6.zip)
Enjoy

w00t! Now I just need more space in FRED so I can see 'em all...
As usual, looking sweet, though familiar - are these the same colour scheme as an existing release?
-
A bit. There's some cyan ones (Set 4 IIRC), and these ones are blue. Much softer, much more gaseous than the cyan ones :)
For comparison:
Blue one (http://www.penguinbomb.com/lightspeed/screenshots/nebulae/SMW01_039.jpg) | Cyan one (http://www.penguinbomb.com/lightspeed/screenshots/nebulae/SMW01_013.jpg)

excellent as always lightspeed - by the way there are some errors on the PCX files of your planets that i spotted - i corrected them for the babylon project effects pack but you might want to check them - the "pure green" was 254,254,254 or something on a few of the maps - i manually edited the palette so they displayed correctly.
-
That must be because I never actually made PCX versions of my planets.
There's TGA and DDS versions, both fully alpha blended on whatever background you choose. I think someone else made PCX versions at one point, though.
-
Lightspeed one day were still planning to fred these thing right? :)
-
Wow, really nice work :)
-
Looks fantastic
-
whoever is doing the re-nebulizing of the main FS2 campaign should start now, so we dont have to wait as long
-
I'm waiting for lightspeed (and when I get done wiht my TVWP stuff) and is there a way to add more stars in one mission without all the extra ambient lighting?
-
by editing stars.tbl. Don't wanna do that, though. I will FRED through the main campaign with jdjt, once this is done, though.
Or, put it this way, we'll make templates for each system, and then assign them to the missions. That's what I was/ I am collectiong your background compositions for :p
-
Ok, just haven't heard much from you :D
background compositions?
You mean my stars?
-
Nope, I mean complete nebula background info spews to use in missions.
-
Oh my bad...
I'll be ready when your are
-
Oh yeah. I donated one of them...
-
You did. I have it here :)
Champion is Roy Fokker so far - he contributed THREE settings :)
-
Wait you used the ones I made?
Sorry... :p
You must know by now, its hard to explain to me
BTW, your Sig...
Does it say "LSD 42" :D
-
huh? I don't get what youre trying to tell me.
And yes, my siggy does say LSD 42.
LSD is an insider joke with my wingman, and is an abbreviation for LightSpeeD - the 42 is the--; well, you know. :D
-
Nevermind, I was thinking you said you used my nebula I made...
42, I'll find out... somehow :p
-
Hmm, I must say, I don't liek it as much as your previous releases. Its still miles better than vanilla FS2, but it just seems somehow...too colourful and vibrant. If you remember way back when all this (nebulas) was just starting out, tthe example was "EVE like", and I think this is straying from that a bit. Not that I think you should keep on the straight and narrow so to speak, it just seems to me that your other releases (some more than others) are more...subdued and...elegent I guess it the word I would use. But also in the "texturing" of the nebula, if you know what I mean, this one seems to be drifting back to the plain FS2 style a bit. Sorry to give negative criticism (or more accurately, not fully positive criticism, since I still consider this to be overall a positive change) but I guess you asked so I had to speak my mind.

Can you release the templates as a pack too once you're ready? I have a few missions set in systems which appear in FS2 and I'm a stickler for staying close to canon if I can :D

You guys need any help? I do have a copy of the mission I redid (the one with the Colossus going down) here somewhere...but it got corrupted I think.
either way, i think I could help - sometimes combining the new and old nebulas do make nice results ;7
-
can you add in bitamps with various sized stars

Yeah, if anybody has in-game fixes I think it would be better if we added those
I think we are going to do one with stars that appear in the real world and just the Freespace 2 canon stars in the other... :)

That was ruled out because the background stars streak when you move, but bitmap ones don't. It'd look funny.
-
Can we changed the way lights are rendered to get the same effect?
-
i still want them -- we can implement motion-blur for all background objects (obviously activated per-bitmap by-flag)
-
*eye's widen*
-
Lightspeed, any idea on when you will release the final version? I am holding off putting these in my missions only because you are still releasing major updates to them. :)
There are one or two nebula graphics in each set that seem to be almost completely black though and can probably be removed, although I haven't seen how they look ingame.
-
I'll download this when it gets put in the .VP files... :D
-
Well, I have two more sets planned - unless someone has a very specific wish i'll be finished after that.
Kazan: Motion blur for all background images? When/If that gets implemented, I could probably do some - Although I'll first wait for the new star background system, that someone *cough RT(?) cough* wanted to code. :)

I'll PM any templates I can finish up using whatever nebs LS has released till now.
*goes off to look for the Sandwich's mission background pack :D
-
Great, just copy n' paste the spew from the mission file and PM me. It'll be added to TehBackgroundLibrary(TM).
-
Lightspeed: When/if I do release the random mission builder, could you lend me that pack?
-
Of course. I will release the complete system table when i'm through with jdjtcagle :)
Important Note: Nebula Release 6 zipfile has been updated. There was a minor cosmetic flaw with nebulF1-main which has been fixed. If you have downloaded the release already, you'll have to download again to have the updated file.
-
those nebulas look great
some soild work there mate

actually that's something I'd like to see.
Or at least make it so the game doesn't generate it's own stars at all.
My dream is to have something like a glowmap for the stars in the background, I mean a black/white image that will tell the game where to draw the stars, of which size, and maybe of which colour and intensity too.
BTW I'm using nonetheless bitmap stars, it doesn't look weird IMHO (actually it seem that those who tested my backgrounds didn't even realized that there were bitmap stars all over the sky) but it surely would work better with a new system.

aww man! the link is broken
is there an other place to download it?
-
what is with the ****ing newbs and ressurecting 3 year old threads?
-
I think you mean
:necro:

Damn and I thought LS was back.

Check this thread (http://www.hard-light.net/forums/index.php/topic,42765.0.html). IIRC you also need to put Taylor's media patches because some of the nebula were bad-alpha-mapped. Get media data and patches from here (http://www.hard-light.net/forums/index.php/topic,39905.0.html).
Media vps 3.6.9. WILL have these nebula data included. You won't need any other extra data

In mv_effects?

In mv_effects?
Nope, in mv_adveffects. It could be too much work for low-end computers.

I guess I shoud make an effects patch with the LS nebs then for those of us who can run them, but can't run the whole adveffects package.

There is already one there... The link can be found in my site, below graphics... the site is in my signature by the way.

Josh, does this VP contain BOTH the upgraded nebulae and the new LS nebulae?
