Go to Melbourne if you wanna get blown off your feet everywhere you go. If you come down in Summer (our Summer), it won't be too bad, but Melbourne is a heck of a lot colder than Sydney. I have some good friends down in Melbourne though, and they enjoy it there. But what can I say, if you come up to Sydney, you get to go to the first (and most kickass, clearly) university in Australia. You can even stop into one of my education lectures or something. ;) Well, for me, it's just to get wider experience. Australian teachers' qualifications are recognised everywhere as well, so getting a job would be fairly easy, and the experience of having taught in a totally different culture is very valuable - both for me and my future students.
So, probably not quite the same reason you wanna leave America. ;)

I have one of those classic love affairs with Australia. Dunno why. Everything I hear about it I like. (Especially the art ^,^) If I had my way I'd go for a semester. Soak up the sights, meet the locals, and try to acquire the Aussie accent. ;) I really can't explain why I like it. But I feel like I have to go there some day. And the study abroad program may be my best chance. :)
