This link is sponsored by the national council for donuts. If you don;t like American donuts, you're a dirty stinking terrorist. Remember - pretzels nearly killed the president, but cops eat donuts. You can trust donuts - we're on your side. And front. and rear. And under your cheek....

All hat effort put in trying to make obesity OK.
If instead they had put the effort in losing weight so they stopped bein obese.
(only a minority of the obese really can't help it due to genetic factors)
No walrusses in bathing suits on the beaches!

I'm in favour of taxing fat people for the extra air they breathe.......
-
and double for the extra air they displace in closed quarters! :D

You know, being overweight isn't necessarily a bad thing. Being overfat is. The media needs to get it right.

Lazy fat ****ers sitting on their ass in front of Big Brother XII instead of being outside..... :doubt:

these people are ****ing morons -- YOU OUT OF THE GENE POOL!
This is as bad as deaf-advocacy groups blocking doctors from giving a simple blood test to pregnant women to figure out if there is a high probability of their child being deaf at birth (CNN... last week or the week before)

Well, I do agree with them that society is too shallow these days, and cares too much about looks. I mean, boob-jobs, liposuction and facelifts are becoming common these days. People who are exposed to the Hollywood culture 24/7 are running around buying expensive clothes, not eating right and getting silicon pumped into their tits just to look a certain way.
...that why I'm never going to LA, I don't think I could stand it for 5 minutes before I started yelling at everyone how they're shallow and superficial attention whores. ;) ;)

not only, but mostly.
Fact is: the US is leading in the fat-race.

Being yonder overweight person who has, to date, since April, dropped 62 lbs , I certainly understand the mentality of these people. You haven't lived untill you've lived overweight. It's....an experience. I could expand but I find it doesn't suit me.
What's ironic is in a nation where something like 60% of us are overweight, there's a huge stigma against..the overweight. That makes no sense to me at all.
All that issue is (the one addressed in Ric's article) is, like you said, an excuse to keep from Getting Off One's Ass. Nothing more. Being Super Tub-O-Lard is, in addition to being aesthetically displeasing, absolute pure unbridled hell on your body, mind, and spirit.
I'd like to believe the current diet craze in this country is the realization that we'd better do something about it. Really, it's just a fad that will pass.
I, on the other hand, plan on living past 40.
-
As long as it's fat they're discriminating against, and not phat.

Bo.

ionia23 i used to be totally and completely overweight - at age 14 i had a chlorestorol count of 257 -- i know what it's like. I find those who are still overweight and could do something about it disgusting.
and fad diets don't help - they're designed to cause you to yo-yo and be stuck on them
Thin is aesthetically pleasing for _genetic_ reasons, and i find fatness more repugnant for the heath implications than the genetic push to find it disgusting.

Dang, after seeing you in that vid you posted a while ago...
I would of never guessed!

Well, obesity has been around since, well, forever. I'm not going to pretend that its solely a product of unhealthy 21st century living. I mean, for some (most) it probably is, but I have no problem with obesity per se. If you live a healthy life and eat decent food and you're a little chunky in the middle, oh well, such is life. Pretty soon, I'm going to start liking fat people just because they're not the typical, young, beautfiul happy shiny, GAP wearing bastards...
...and that folks, is called a tangent.

Um, dude, there's the health benefits too. Why do you think doctors advise against obesity? Fat people face a lot more problems, notably heart disease.

...breathing problems, discrimination, self-destructiveness, diminshed sex drive, etc, etc etc.....

...and now a word from French public education:

 similar situation here.
I have no sympathy for people who claim they can't lose weight, because there is virtually never an excuse for it.
-
Amen aldo.
Being overweight is just a disgusting thing. If you cant help it, then I sympathize, but if your just a lazy McDonnalds bastard, then I despise it.
-
On the same note, big up to people who are overweight and are working at getting fit.
-
/me agrees with aldo

People will not change their behaviors until they are ready to. Unfortunately, it many cases, that comes about after it's too late.
BUT, since we're on the subject of humor, here's one of my favorites.
Which would YOU prefer?
Paris, France?

or Paris, Texas?

I'm not so fat you'd point me out in the street, but I am on the larger side (think 230lb, 5'11). I've never really worked out why, I've always done some excersise and I dont shovel a Mcdonalds down every 4 hours. I think its really down to quantity of food consumed as apposed to quality.
Anyway, I've been watching ye olde calorie intake over the weeks and I'm losing 1-2 lbs a week, so now weigh 218lbs. Its not especially difficult, i still have the odd bag of chips after a night out and I'm doing well enough. I'm doing it more for the fashion / girls related benefits, than the health (though that's something I'd consider later in life).
With this in mind, I dont see how the monstorously obese can say they cant lose wieght. It just comes down to lack of will power, and stupidity. Not everyone is meant to be stick thin, but there's a reason you can't find many XXL t shirts and size 42" waist trousers - because people shouldn't be that fat.
(well muscles/being tall is understandable)
