What do u think about it?
here is a litte tweak guide
http://ucguides.savagehelp.com/Doom3/Doom3Guide.htm
-
I have tried it. It's graphics only.
The first hour I really liked graphics and thought this game is gonna rock once real action starts. Alas, I was wrong. It's really boring, now I play it for fifteen minutes and then I quit, do something else. And MAYBE play some more after several hours.
It had the elements in place to make it really epic game, but it failed. Levels do become repetitive and boring.
-
I didn't try it, but what I hear is just about what Mr. Fury said - that the engine is superb, but the game is boring as hell. And that the multiplayer sucks big time.
-
Great for mods, shoddy untill some good ones come out?
-
I'm waiting for the demo....
-
It's an awesome game, although the scare factor wore off very early for me. Like one of my mates said, it's evolutionary, not revolutionary - IMO, in the same way that Half Life was to Quake. You need a modern system to do it any justice though.
-
Mine is on order and won't hit English shores for at least a week - I'll pass judgement on it then.
-
I'de give anything to be able to play Doom 3, unfortunately, my system can't handle it and I'm a few undred bucks short.
My hope right now is that I'll find a suitcase full of money on the street. Hopefully, it won't be handcuffed to a dead man's wrist, but I'm willing to compromise.
-
I...love...this...game...
Its so freakin scary! The imps are the creepiest damn things I have ever seen!
-
graphically cool ... and yet too dark
and the initial (atleast) storyline is very half-life
-
I did order it I been hearing lot good things and bad things about this and Yeah Multi-play sucks big time...
-
I havent played the multiplayer yet. Why does it suck?
-
one reason is Doom3 MP maps are only for 4 players
-
Doom maps were always better with fewer players though.
-
I had to vote I won't play it in this lifetime. I'd need to upgrade my ram, CPU and HDD first, and by the time that happens, Doom3'll be old news.
-
After seeing all the bad reviews it's like nobody even played the originals before.
-
My friend just yesterday told me one of Doom 3 reviews gave it 9/10, after reviewer finished the game, he updated the score to 6/10. :D
I seriously need to ask the url for that particular review. :p
-
well here is some reviews that gives high scores

You mean the Half-Life story is very Doom.
-
Only game i've really played of this genre is Quake II. I did play the origonal doom, but that was about 8 years ago.
Cant say i'll be buying doom 3, lost intrest in computer games - though I am looking forward to Locomotion, the long awaited sequel to Transport Tycoon.
-
I will probably get this in a few weeks, after I buy and recieve a new video card. If you wait a week or two after the release date, most games are a lot cheaper on ebay than retail; I bet I can get a new copy for around $35 or so. I'm pretty much expecting awesome graphics, sound and map design with the same gameplay as the first Doom, which can certainly be fun even today. If they deviated a lot from that formula then it wouldn't be Doom, right? :D
-
my friend just spent $1300 upgrading his computer. it's TOP-OF-THE-LINE... everything from a x800 ultra ($600.00) graphics card, to the fastest ram in the world (corsair xms pro xll), to a 64bit Athlon 3400+ processor...... and the game barely runs.
-
that is impossible... unless he is running the game in uber resolutions or he's been suckered... I run the game fine in medium details, no AA, with 1024x768 and my specs are much lower than those...
-
He would have to be running it on uber-high resolution levels. A friend of mine still has an old 9700 Pro and it runs just fine.

I've got A64 3200+, Radeon 9800XT 256 Mb, 1 GB 400 MHz DDR RAM and Doom3 runs very smoothly. Occasional fps droppages due to heavy shadowy environments but not below playable. I think Catalyst 4.8 and 4.9 will improve performance enough for even shadows to work smoothly.
By the way, the best performance tweak in Doom3 seems to be disabling shadows.

Good call.
Personally, I'm loving the game, the level of immersion (partly due to me being a graphics whore) is fantastic and the atmosphere is incredibly tense. I think people may be expecting too much after Far Cry game, this is an id game after all, you're lucky your even getting a story. The weapon balance is great though.

BWAHAHAHAHA!!!!
doom 3 runs fine on my computer.
1.8ghz athlon xp
256mb pc2100 ddr - yes, that's right, tiny, innit?
128mb Radeon 9000.
and that's with bumpmapping, specular, and at 1024 x 768 resolution..
infact, i'd have to say that doom 3 runs better than Far-cry on my system.
-
/me saw the $56 price tag at Bestbuy and laughed
-
I'll probably play it, when I upgrade my machine....in a year or so :p
...on a related note: Check out this online petition (http://www.petitiononline.com/kull1522/petition.html)
It's funny how they're judging a game without even playing it.
But read some of the comments too, because they're hilarious.

LOL!

I'm sure one of my friends will probably own it in the next few months. Then I'll go over to their house and see how it is then. ;)
-
Ok for clarification.
I'm running an AMD 2.1XP, a Radeon 9800pro 128mb and 512mb SDram (I was poor at the time) and Doom 3 runs in high quality, 1024x768 with 2XAA like butter. I have an occasional frame stutter when opening a door but that's about it.
There is an option in the Doom3 config file in doom3/base/ directory that makes things run smoother.
seta image_cacheMegs
I think the default is twenty. I whacked it up to 512 and the game runs pretty flawlessly now.

My system has alot less than that and it runs great. And by the way, anyone who says the game sucks is on crack.

try moving through the fog or other environmental effects. i guarantee you you'll see the game lag. because on his system (i played on it yesterday) it lags. not EXTREMELY by any means, i guess i shouldn't have said it hardly runs, but you can definately detect the lag. still playable of course, but it's there.
and you've got to have every option and detail turned on. otherwise you're not experiencing the game as it was meant to be played, and you can't say "It runs fine on my system" ...basically "Doom 3" is just to show off the graphics, which are amazing. the engine's going to be around for a long time though.

I'm running with everything on, been through fog no problems, been through environmental effects with no problems. If your friend is running on Ultra quality mode tell him to drop it to high quality, the difference is negligible (the Ultra mode uses uncompressed textures and normal maps and requires a 512mb video card, it can cause texture thrashing on lower memory cards).

check your framerates... i guarantee you they'll drop noticeably at certain times when running through fog ;) They do on my card and on his, and he works for nVidia.
-
the athmospäre is very good the effects scared me that i throw the mouse off my desk
you shouldnt play the game when you are not mental stable:)
-
Dam i'm stuck in alpha lab sector 4. i need to get to a powerplant or something to reach bravo team.(as quickly as possible).
now after i open something on the computer a bridge keep turnig around to 4 diffrent places, i tried to reach 1 of those postion but no luck... i can go down with the ladder but nothing is there expect a few monsters i killed.
any advice :( ?
-
im sorry for the bump
but dam i cant pass it.... any ideas?

I've got 1.6A , radeon 9500pro,512 mb . doom3 runnig smooth +player shadow pretty smooth...(At least when no 5-6 monsters around).
-
Shadows work fine for me, though there is some visable graphical tearing once in a while. It's not bad, (nor should it be given the system it's running on) but I expected better. Again, the new Catalysts may help in that department.
Game's a bit too dark though, it causes a lot of eyestrain if you play for too long. That and the fact that it's incredibly hard to shoot at monsters you can't see, yet who can somehow see you perfectly.
-
Doom3 is probably pain to CRT monitor owners. ;)

actually, it's quite playable on mine.. fog doesn't phase it, really.
-
well i guarantee you you both don't have the same settings then, because if you don't have a video card on the same level as the x800, and you have the settings as high as he does... then there's certain areas in the game where it will slow down, if just for a second. and don't say he doesn't know what he's doing... he designs video cards for nVidia. it's just a fact that some areas of the game are so intense on the video card, that with all options on and high, there will be significant framerate drop.
-
there are certain areas of the game that with the x800 it will slow down with the settings high. don't question his knowledge or what i'm saying. he designs video cards for nVidia, he knows what he's talking about, and i've seen his computer, and the lag in the game with my own eyes.
it's not massive lag, but there's an obvious decrease in framerate for a second at certain "graphically intense" areas of the game.
-
I dunno man, for all your guarantees it still sounds like those guys are getting pretty decent framerates. ;) Ah well, I'll wait to see how some locals find the performance.
-
hey, what do the new imps look like

they're more fierce than their doom cousins, and they can crawl along walls and ceilings.
-
hmm, nice, it's reasonably similar to the origonal yet still diferent enough to make it cool in it's own right.
what happened to pinky though, from what I've seen they totaly screwed that one up, it looks nothing like the origonal

heeeeere's pinky.. yeah, not like the original, but there's actually a lack of "horned" demons in doom3, however..
the hell-knight looks better tho.. he looks more ominous.
-
yeah, but neither one looks like what there suposed to be, why not just call them something else?
I just don't see the point.
-
Demons are awesome.......
just got Doom3 and gameplay is sweet well everything in Doom3 is sweet anyway..

I guess the question is, does it matter that they haven’t stayed entirely true to the old Doom formula / style? Its been so long since Doom 2 that – in my opinion – there’s room enough for evolution and changing of the details to better suit todays expectations and tech.
-
Just finished it. It really seems like a mixture of Doom and System Shock 1.
Overall, fun and it has a ton of atmosphere. "Horror" wise it's pretty gimmicky house-of-horror style fear, just like the original Doom games. However, there's a few moments where Shock style creepy things are done.
The graphics are a little less flashy than UT2K4 or FarCry. However, there's a higher attention to detail. Things such as different glass distortions, the Flash animation based things on the computer monitors, etc. Character animations are also much better and the AI isn't quite as dumb as I was expecting it to be. (some of the monsters do use cover and coordinate attacks)
-
i shall state, right here, right now.. that in FPS's, i /hate/ spiders, or anything like 'em...

Maybe u can help me then.
I cant pass that level(alpha lab sector 4), with the bridge that keep turnig around, and if u go back u see another door and if u enter it u hear a voice of a child tells u "what did u do with my baby?" and then u hear babys cry... when u come back to that bridge room, there is a ladder... this it.

Fear, I am not sure where you are stuck. I just completed level 4 of Alpha labs and didn't see any turning bridges. There was just one normal bridge which extended after pressing "Extend bridge" button on nearby terminal. :)
-
i know i started the level all over agian. its seems there is 2 button. 1 of them is completley ****ed up and if u press it u cant pass the level. thank u god for auto-save.

This is a WARNING!
Appearantly people downloaded the co-op mod for doom3.
they found out every time the guest try to jion the game crashs. after a while they found out thier cd-key is beeing used.
The currenct version of Co-op mod is a cd-key stealer. do not download until the new version of it arrive.
the guy that installed that cd-key stealer is a smart guy because he knows every1 wants to play co-op

He designs for nvidia and yet uses an ATI. That's faith. Most probably suffering that lag due to ATI's poor OpenGL implementation, still can't say I've noticed it myself however.
-
yeah i thought that was ironic too. *shrugs* maybe it is something to do with his card, or maybe he just has everything set too high. but there are definately parts where it slows down on his machine

It's nothing new - several BF1942 mods were released that stole CD keys from people. I doubt even BF1942 was the first game to have it happen.

Btw...little bit of a derailment...has anyone played "They Hunger" for Half-life? Holy crap...it's old but god damn it's spooky and freaky and has Zombies and all sorts of other goodies! (end de-railment)

i think u should buy doom3, i personally love it and if i had to review it i would give it 9.5/10, im my scale farcry got 9/10.
plus i dont think doom3 is scarier than AVP2 for example but way more intense..... with the spooky sounds and the dynamic lighting, heck sometimes im afriad from my own shadow. its awesome... and chainsaw is freaking cool.

Which co-op mod is the trojan?!
I DL'd one from GamersHell, it's 1k and has a pak file with a single maps.def inside it...
Didn't seem possible to be a trojan with such a simple file!!
-
the new version of the co-op mod is still at work.
the older 1 wasnt a trojan but a guy insterted it, so not all the version contain the trojan. but be careful.

Okay. Just got to try it.
It's too dark. Exit. Look up the console control to change that. (Alt tabbing doesn't seem to work).
Load it back up. The audio stutters. Download latest set of NForce drivers. Run it again. Computer hangs everyt 30 seconds. Reboot again.
Run the game. Finally it works!
Run around for a bit waiting for the enemy to appear. Suddenly they do and all f**king hell breaks loose.
MUMMY. I'M SCARED!!!!
Quit Doom 3 and vow to never play it again. Well until next time :D

I finally played it! I got to Alpha Labs Sector 4, and while I didnt scream a whole lot, it was still very creepy. Some places, I would look at them and think "Nuh uh, I aint goin in there..." but then I went inside and its like "OMG ITS TEH IMP'S! THEY WANT TEH RAPE MEH! SHOTGUN! ARGH!"
