Title: Shinemaps
Post by: starbug on August 05, 2004, 02:24:54 pm
Hi there i seem to have a problem with the shinemaps as in i can't get them to work, i have looked around but i can't seem to find an answer. I'm using FSO 3.6 with launcher 5.2, i have all the media vps, everything else works except the shinemaps, thats running using direct3d8. I tried openGL and they worked in that but that version is unplayable on my system. my system is,

AMD Athlon(tm) XP 2600+,  MMX,  3DNow, 2.1GHz
512MB RAM
Windows XP Home Edition (5.1, Build 2600) Service Pack 1
128 RADEON 9500 catalyst drivers 4.4
DirectX 9.0b

does this help, and can someone help me? :(

Oh yeah all the Vps are in the FS2 folder.

Bit of a strange one. Have you turned on cell shading or anything like that?

Do me a favour, cut and paste your -command line args into your next post. You'll find them in the launcher above the select mod button on the features tab.

ok here you go

C:\Games\FreeSpace2\fs2_open_3_6.exe -spec -glow -pcx32 -jpgtga -d3dmipmap -cell -phreak -ship_choice_3d -2d_poof -snd_preload

the cell shading didn't work either, i never had this problem in previous versions of FSO

Have u previously installed any of the newer Catalyst drivers? They might still be hiding in ur system.

Actually problem is with the newer Catalyst versions... I'm personally running my Radeon 9500 with Omega Drivers (http://www.omegadrivers.net/) build on Catalyst 4.3 and everything works fine for me...

Btw those Omega Drivers (http://www.omegadrivers.net/) are unlocking all 9500 pipelines which actually makes Radeon 9700 from your card, so you might be interested in getting them as well :)  Just go to the Archive and download drivers build on older Catalyst.

since i have installed the catalyst 4.4 drivers doom 3 is unplayable i lose 30 fps only because of the older driver

Turn of cell shading. It won't work unless someone makes some art for it anyway and it could be the cause of your problem.

It's supposed to make ships look cartoony or anime-ish.  It won't work under HTL, and there hasn't been alot of demand to fix it, so there are apparently no plans to do so.  It also requires some special texture.  Don't use the -cell flag... that pretty much sums it up.

Later!

That's very odd. Do you have "-spec" flagged in your command line?

ok i ave got the problem sorted out but i have to downgrade my drivers to 4.3, the catalysts 4.4 driver just seems not to like it. So i have no idea why it worked fine on 4.4 last week before i formated my machine

Smg. didn't get properly overwritten during your driver migration.
That's my 2 cents.
