Now all we need is an army of clones to wear them......... :nervous:
-
Goody. Now we get to invade thrid world nations with an army of black power rangers. I seriously think that the US army has been watching too much tv.
Im sure the 'armor' has its good points, but can we please not make our soldiers look like the master chief?
-
The black one looks like he can't see, his visor is foggy
-
Ahhh... the spider silk vest, saw it on discovery science... He's literally the Terminator
-
I think the black armor suit looks hot...
I need to get out more... stupid videogames.
-
IIRC, it's soft until vibrations from bullets or explosions act on it then it hardens to such a state that the bullet bounces off
Fire proof, Biological warefare protected, the ultimate weapon...
I mean this is the future, although I can't see how exactly the future will be fought we these vest :doubt:
-
they look a little like colonial marines. especially the khaki-uniformed helmets
-
They also had beta stage camaflouge, that would project the enviroment to make the soldier invisible, believe it!
-
Looks fantastic. The 2020 bloke looks more like a SWAT soldier than a field soldier, though. ;)
-
that armor looks pretty cool ....
-
all that trouble and funding, and an illiterate shop-keeper with an AK can take out a whole squad if given a chance...
Seriously, the US is way too caught up in their own image. Putting 20 thousand dollars worth of equipment on a soldier will not make him any better at his job, nor will it magically boost his effectiveness by 500%. And then there is also the fact that combat soldiers are carrying around 40 pounds worth of stuff on their backs while attempting to engage in urban combat...
edit: its probably closer to 70-75 pounds, but I'm not enough of a military nut to know for sure...
-
I have to agree this is the future, but Rictor is RIGHT ON SPOT.
Training, and tactics first, equipment second. People who rely too much on their equipment loose their own edge.

I think the MC is a regular human, actually. A really beefed-up and surgically-enhanced one, but still human. ;)

So what does this do to stop bombing attacks on the same soldiers?

more effective protection, really.. making armor lighter for more effective soldiers without compromising protection.. 'sides, they just look cool :p
-
Not exactly what I asked :p
"We cannot fight these soldiers... they look too cool to be killed!"
-
EDIT: Ups, double post, someone delete this...
-
Better armour can't hurt...... if you can increase the chances of a soldier surviving an attack - be it sniper, infantry, explosive, etc - then you decrease the effectiveness of those attacks as a tactic. Of course, it has to be matched with training as well.
There's a reason the SAS are the best in the world, and it isn't equipment.
-
Bloody hell, that 2020 guy looks like he's gonna go march over some hippy-assed protesters! :O

:nod:Skills are most important and then good armor
-
Does anybody remeber my thread about this? :D
(skills vs tech)

But if you don't have skills you are dead for sure even you have high tech armor
those who have skills are going be alive longer..
-
That's not my point! :p
We discused this "already" and came up with a conclusion... I'll find a quote I liked :)

The fact of the matter is that to a large part it makes no difference, because if American soldiers went back to old style equipment and techniques, it would simply make them all the more vulnerable to other countries' newer stuff.
America got a wake up call regarding it's airforce recently during some trials against the kind of planes they would be facing in several world conflict situations. It seems the American planes aren't nearly as far ahead on technology as the Military thought. In particular, French Mirages and Russian Migs (I think) both performed far far better than it was thought they would.
That's why these soldiers MUST learn the newest technology, because everyone elses are.....
However, if they are not teaching that soldier how to survive when that equipment is not available, then they are sending them out to war without the single most important tool they can have.
-
The new armor will not only be more resistant, but it will have infrared sensors and all possible high-tech stuff
Training & skill are important, but a guy in such a armor has a huge advantage.. I mean, SUV's and other squad members are sending data to him..you can't sneak up on him, he can see you behind a wall or in the dark, etc, etc..
-
...and when a little hitch enters the system, or the enviroment negates that advantage, then what?
Trashman we don't underestimate technology.
It is simply that training is just as important as technology. The fact that the only thing a soldier can always trust is himself and his brains - the rest are tools.
Now, if you invade a country and your toys srewed up, you just say: "I can't do it without them, I quit!" - in the middle of the jungle than you'll earn some pretty troubled looks from your warbuddies.
Technology is nice and good, but just as Vietnam, Korea, and recenlty Iraq itself has prooven it, it's advantage is way overrated.
-
Problem is, I think the US Army, and armies all over the world (NOT just the US) is too concerned with percents and not training.
Although I admit this will give US soldiers and possibly their allies a definate advantage, if it works like they say it will.
-
I never underestimated training.
Of course it's incredibly important. I just said that a combat system like this is a huge advantage. Not only protection wise, but detection wise allso.
A normal soldir in this armor could probably kick a SAS ass.
Then again, a Delta Force member in a armor like this and you have a lean, mean fighting machine.....
-
Or some bloke standing at the side of the battlefield trying to press his nose, his ankle and his right ear to reset the system ;)
-
Technology is only useful in controlled environments.
Technology doesn't always garauntee a victory; only the type of soldiers you send always does.

Until someone makes EMP-Weapon
and middle of battle field high tech armor are somewhat useless
without skills

SAS are Special force they have far better training than normal soldier and SAS use tactics like going silent and eliminate targer from distance etc.
Normal soldiers just trained that well
