If you came here and expect me to hide the spoilers, too damn bad. :p
Anyhow, I just got back from watching Aliens vs Predator and I have to say it's a must-see for any fanboy. Excellent visuals (particularly the Queen) and some suspenseful moments. Not too many though, it is an action movie. And as such it bows the conventions and the usual suspects survive. I admit though I wasn't too fond of the fights, they tended to be a little chaotic and rapidly dissolved into flailing arms and claws and tails making it hard to figure out just what was happeening. But nonetheless it was pretty damn fun. Not a particularly deep plot but who wants one! There's various homages as well, such as Weyland being Bishop (or more accurately the other way) including the knife-thing.
Oh, and there's a predalien.

Who wins? Tell us in black text if you want to.
-
A predalien? Whats that like?
-
Mike Tyson.

SPOILER INTO WHAT A PREDALIAN IS DONT LOOK UNLESS U WANT TOO
predalien is alien that bursted out of a Predator, an example seen in alien 3 when that alien came out of a dog, it was smaller and red but faster, aliens which in the games are called "Runners", when a alien comes out of a predator, its called a predalien which is really strong, so whenever a face hugger lays a chest buster in something, the alien get something from the host. may it be stregnth, speed, or both dosent really matter, all u got to know is that is it strong and fast.

Well sounds good......:)

*see, aliens vs predator 2 PC. ;)
-
Predaliens are very tough-ass aliens, with large whacking power. *swipe*

I've gotta see this movie. I'm glad it's more action than suspense, I shouldn't have any problems sitting through it. ;)

How can this movie only be rated PG?

There's a surprisingly limited amount of blood.
Oh, and the very first scene is too cool. Hint: It's not what you think it is at first glance. :D
-
Well, AvP is currently ranking 9% on Rotten Tomatoes, and 5.9 on IMDb.
Directed by the same guy who committed Resident Evil and Event Horizon. Sounds like one to catch on video.
-
Well i think eveyrone going to see it is a must, if it bombs BOTH franchises die.
admitedly fox should loose out financially for ditching the Alien 5 with Ridley directing and Cameron writing (you ****ing ****s Fox!) but if it does well then as well as the obvious sequal we might finally see Alien 5.
-
i love aliens films. though i the 3rd was the ****... but the rest was so good. specially the second.
alien 5 will be awesome... i wish they will do it.
-
dude...
Just saw it...If you liked the Alien movies and the Predator movies...you won't be disappointed...
From the beginning right through to the end...it's a good show.
...I wanna go again...:D
...my only complaint...the chest-bursters bursted too soon...but that's only my opinion...and the Predalien...tis nice looking...
Go see AVP...now!
Go...stop reading this...if you're still reading this you suck cause you aren't watching AVP...if you're still reading this...you have no life and will probably watch AVP on DVD cause you can't pay to watch it on WIIIIIIIIIIIDESCREEEEEEEEEEEEEEN...
...go...NOW!

I already have, the first half was too slow, and the predalien came a little too late for it to realy be cool, they should have faced one just before the queen, but no
-
Good Movie! It was alot like J.P. The queen was running around like a TREX and the aliens were alot like the rapters. Petty cool if you ask me.
Only complaint was some stupid plot things, the aliens popping out way to fast (like in 5 mins or less) and not enough of that predalien.
-
well that was just for the sequal
-
I liked how they used certain elements from the AvP books in the movie as well.
Isn't it actually rated pg-13?
-
I quite liked them incorporating elements of the books into the film as well. However, in true Paul Anderson style, he made something that was good and watchable, but had the potential to be so much more. So I don't really blame him, the producers prolly wanted him to tone down and do it fast. But if he would have been given free reign, then it would have been a truly awsome movie.
Personally, if they would have followed the character development arc from the early avp book, and had the predator and the chick level things earlier in the film, to allow more character development, the whole ending would have been way more emotional. Yes, it would have been more of a buddy movie, but better then the last minute " Oh ok, tag along."
But I'm not complaining. It was a good movie, even tho it wasnt mega violent, it was done tastefully. And it was really fast and furious. Hope they make a sequel. :D

Okay, let's look back at Predator. Ahrnie and his team went through a whole host of gore at the behest of the Predator and his lovely techniques of skinning.
The Arnie killed eet with lots of blood, yelling and manly chest bearing... (Stop eet, stop whining!)
Where the **** has all that gone? Are we too soft these days to see such things?
-
The fact of the matter is, FOX made Paul tone down the violence to pg-13 3 weeks before it was too be released so they could rake in money from the younger crowd
It was originally intended to be R rated, and to make it pg, they had to cut out about 40 minutes worth of the best (and bloodiest) scenes, also creating a number of plot holes.
In addition, the budget to create this film, I hear, was pretty damn small.
Fortunately, they'll be releasing an R-rated, extended directors cut of the film. :)
-
HELL-****ING-YES!
GIMME MY BLOOD AND GORE DAMN'T! :hopping:
-
when?
-
Beats me. Probably around the time of the DVD release.

The studio cut 40 minutes out of it without Paul Anderson's permission (and much to his annoyance, he was originally going for the R rating). It's not like an R rating has ever stopped anyone who is under 17 from seeing those kinds of movies. Dumbarse studio.
Btw, I just saw it today. The charactization (of the humans) could use some work and the plot is a bit thin. The dialogue was ok. It was extremely entertaining (the whole shifting pyramid thing was pretty unique). Overall it was ok. Not nearly as bad as the critics said it was. It was better than Predator 2 and Alien 4. I look forward to the directors cut.
-
Its ludicrous going for a pg13 the key markets for the film are/were 18+!
-
not better than preditor 2, but defenately better than alien 3 and 4.
one thing that had me a little :wtf: was that I thought that both aliens and (especaly) preditors were suposed to like hot weather, why was this thing built in antarctica?
-
Aliens, I have no idea what your talking about, but predators, your correct about. They do prefer hot weather. The going idea is that, considering the whole thing is a predator manhood ritual, they were to be blooded under less than ideal weather conditions as an additional bonus, so to speak.

In Alien vs. Predator? Isn't that like going to an opera and saying there wasn't enough spoken dialogue?
-
No, but the characterization in the Aliens and Predator series were better.
And Bob, Predator 2 was not a good movie and it was pretty disappointing. One of my major gripes with it was that it revealed the predator in the first 15 seconds of the film (in AvP they waited until 30 or 40 minutes).
EDIT: The Aliens set up a nest in the warmest part of the facility in the movie Aliens. In AvP they were there because the queen was forced to be there. They can easily survive in pretty much any weather.
-
I'm sorry but when I see previews for movies like these, I automatically expect them to be plotless action orgies. Not that there's anything wrong with that. I thoroughly enjoyed Freddy vs. Jason.
-
Ooooh... A directors cut eh? Cant wait! :D
