Title: Problem with FRED, presumably relating to the -mod parameter
Post by: TopAce on August 14, 2004, 06:45:58 am
I am facing a special problem with the newest FRED Open(Why don't I have any of the older ones when I need them :():
It is supposedly related to the -mod parameter or the whole mod-controlling system. When I open FRED and start making a mission, nothing happens yet. I can do things normally, even using any mods or new craft, but when I save my mission, it says it cannot find the POF files for the mods. It is interesting since I am pretty certain the mods are there, and it is more interesting that FRED had been able to read any kind of mods before saving.
It does not happen with only official things, only with non-canon models. I haven't tried putting the models into a .vp, though. I don't think that would be the solution. Has anyone encountered this problem?

are they in the /mod/data/models? if so, i think they won't work... it should just be /mod/models ... IIRC the mod directory is supposed to basically be a renamed data directory, so that within it, you find immediately the multitude of folders...

I have always used models in the data/models. It's fun I have never had this problem. It occured from one minute to another, without me doing any changes.

Not correct. Moddir\data\models is the correct one.

Let me get this straight TopAce. Suppose you have a copy of a mod - lets say the Hecate Mk II - in your moddir/data/models folder and a correct entry in your tables for it.

What you're saying is that you can place the Hecate Mk II in FRED. You can edit the mission as much as you like but when you save the mission a warning pops up telling you that the pof can't be found?

Or are you saying that the warning appears only when you attempt to reload the mission?

The errror message comes up in both cases. Either when I try to save the mission or I try to re-open it.

I guess he meant that.

Exactly.

Try making a new mission with the same mod. Do you get the same thing again or does it not let you place the mod this time?

Problem fixed. You can close/erase this thread if you want to.

You might want to tell people what you did just in case someone encounters it later TopAce :D

For anyone who cares he downloaded Kazan & Taylor's latest FRED build and the probelm went away :)
