Title: Help!! Virus infection!!
Post by: Singh on August 14, 2004, 09:07:32 am
Yearrrgh!! Ive been infected by some infernal virus called PE_JEEFO.A and no matter what program I use, its stuck there and wont get cleaned. Trendmicro's System Cleaner and the housecall scanner cant get rid of it, but I dont exactly have norton (the full version anyway - im downloading the trial version now) so that aint much of an option.

Anyone know how to get rid of the thing? Please do tell if you know!! :(

Run this (it's a on-the-fly scan): http://security.symantec.com/sscv6/default.asp?productid=symhome&langid=ie&venid=sym

It will tell you exactly what you have, and how to remove it.

http://securityresponse.symantec.com/avcenter/venc/data/w32.jeefo.html

(actually the latter is more useful... tried the regfix bit?)  Also saw someone advising use of an adware-removal tool; http://www.bullguard.com/forum/8/Virus-Help-_1813.html

well, the virus has totally screwed up my system. Fortunately, I had a totally fresh install of win2k on my second HDD, so i'm formatting the old install and getting rid of it completely. It was about time i did some house cleaning anyway......

No need actually...the stuff that was infected was deleted, the rest was in the root directory, which I managed to fix by switching from one Windows install to the other. But I really screwed up the registry on the other one......fortunately, I only have windows on that partition, so little data lost :)

(my FS2 missions are still safe!!!)
