Whatever happed to Dark? Last I heard he was doin some campaign and then he just kinda disappeared, he was a real good modeler n all that.....almost legendary i spose
-
Got sick of it and left I guess, the way I understand it a several of the best modders the community has ever seen came and went before I showed up about 2 years ago. It doesn't seem like I've been here that long. *sheesh*
-
He didn't get 'sick', he just dissappeared.
Also, I think he was the only good modeler that was around before your time.
-
Dark left from comminity because he was busy in RL" IIRC

What about Bob? He was around then, methinks. (before my time, actually)
-
Dark was the first...and Bob was probably the second and Bob is still here so cheers to that!
-
I suppose... but notice how the best ones are leaving?
Dark is gone.
Nico hasn't posted in quite a bit.
Aldo's quit actually making projects.
Bob is consumed in 3 projects...
Mikhael can't show up here too often...
Ryx keeps having failing HDD's...
Sad pattern here.
-
We need fresh blood here, and wait them to get some real skills...
-
Cheer up everyone, i'm still here !!:D
no ?
actually, it'd be interesting to know who were the "first" to start all this moddin'
-
Dark was Pioneer of model making and he some sort Legend around here and Models like Golgotha , Charon Etc is his
(http://www.wild666.freeserve.co.uk/Feds.jpg)
this was posted when Dark posted in HLP over 2 years ago
-
that's quite a funny thread actually. Quite similar to this one as it happens...

Well, you're still here, aren't you? :D
-
I remember when he was still around on the VWBB. But then I sorta stopped showing up there and I was temporarily dead to the Freespace community until I started poking around at Hard Light.
-
Dark is/was one of those modellers who, whenever you looked at his stuff, you're heart would sink - because you'd never be that good.
The fact that all of his (non-HTL as well) stuff still looks ****ing ace is testament to that.

What's your point? :p
-
You're an excellent modeller.
-
Ehh. I disagree. I have so many failed meshes... far far more than the decent ones I show.
-
So that means? :D
Ohh, that you don't give up and do eventually make good stuff, well that's 89% better than most people with the tools
Give yourself some credit, your good...
-
you should see the number of fighter/bomber scn files I have that are nothing more than a 20 poly shape that I gave up on
-
Ironic how I complain that I can't model, and then I go and do this...

:sigh:

that's not a good asymetic design, put a pod on the other side, asymetrics need to be balenced along about the center, the fs1 shivan models were excelent about this, short thick cluncky bits on one side are balenced by long thin bits on the other

I don't think so, actually. I don't think there's any real reason or need to balance asymmetric designs, on a functional or aesthetic level.
I think it's just a tendency because we're symmetric (more or less), and tend to expect a certain level of symmetry.

Cough* Styxx Is still around *Cough
-
Styxx never ever posts anything, though.
( Yeah, once MT is released he will be elevated to godhood, but until then......)
-
His models are really good, yes. But he needs to learn to texture better :p (But then I'd be out of a job :p)
-
Well maybe it is time that, us young ones learn to model and texture.
Unfortunatly I am not just now learning to FRED. I had truespace 5 but "lost it."
Can someone "help me" out with that.
-
Thankfully, Dark finished a good set of the MT capship textures before he vanished, but it's still a shame he's no longer around. I've talked to him a few times after he vanished from the forums, but then he stopped replying to ICQ and emails and disappeared altogether. He was not only damn good at what he did, he was able to pass that knowledge on with ridiculous ease - one of the reasons the MT models look as good as they do (I'll leave the interpretations of that to those who've actually seen them) is because of Dark's advice. And his textures, of course (for the capships).
I still think that Asheron's Call consumed him. Or he's lurking around, laughing manically when he thinks of the day he'll reemerge and announce he has finished Arsenal of Darkness.
:D
-
I can't help but feel a little guilty that Dark helped me out on a lot of my early campaigns but I never repaid the favor by working on Arsenal of Darkness.
*sigh* I wish I could get in touch with him...

Hehe AC was my first MMORPG that I did buy, because i was interested playing Multi player-RPG, didn't know that Dark played it.. It was really good MMORPG back then, But I didn't get addicted to AC:D, now days I wait something really good mmorpg to come
that has something new to offer.
Doh that was OT:o
-
Asheron's call? what is that
-
MMORPG.
-
god... his work is amazing...
-
MMORPG????? sorry i like sports games and freespace
-
My advice (and don't take this in the wrong way please):
Quit moaping like *****es and get to work. So he was good at what he did - big deal, now go kick his ass by making something better. The fact that he isn't around anymore, gives you a good head start.
Chop Chop. The time you took to write the "i'm inferior" posts was time stolen from something useful.
Damn, if I had a computer that could process models and textures with ease, I'd be on the job right now, no matter HOW crap my stuff would look like (it'd be pretty crap, but it'd be something).
After all, from what I've seen, none of you are retards incapable of kicking ass when it comes to these things.
Just my two cents on the issue.
I have to agree though, whoever made the Charon and the Golgotha gets my respect. That _was_ the next step (a logical one anyway).
-
Err... you know it's been three years or so and everything since then has effectively been "getting to work", right?

:D
beside , his work is pretty amazing even compare to today. infect its the best... and dam over 2 years has been since he posted that picture and its still rock even today standard.
-
there was a point that i considerd dark my only competition :D lately there has been alot of talented modders out there that make my work look kinda lax. i think nukemode release 3 is quite abit overdue.
