Title: Any Floridians 'round here? / Hurricane Charley
Post by: Sandwich on August 15, 2004, 10:50:14 am
Anybody experience it? My brother's in Sebring, Florida, visiting friends, and last time I heard from him was half an hour before the storm hit...  so I'm wondering if anyone knows what the phone / electricity status is in that general area... :-/

I live far from events like these, fortunately.

Port Charlotte was wiped off the map, practically. I have a friend who's family is down there. He says he spoke to them, power may be out for  6 weeks. Which means no phones, no water, no cooking (electric cooktops are big in florida) and no boiling water, like recommended.

It's going to be hard times for those people. I wish them all the luck in the world.

Northwest Florida here, it was sunny through both the failed Bonnie and Charlie.  Luckily there was a cold front that swooped in just in time to save my ass, otherwise it would be me without power, phone, ect.

Well, on a personal note, I heard from sombody who spoke to a friend who got an email from somebody my brother's staying with -  they went down to Ft. Lauderdale for the hurricane, but are now back up at the house, putting things back in order. So all's more or less fine on that front.

I'm down by Miami.  We thought we were gonna get hit but whew! *wipes brow*  My heart goes out to those in the damage zone.  I was here for Andrew and know the devastation.

Supposedly it was going to be pouring here on Friday and work even said they may close due to flooding, but the only rain we saw all week as on Friday morning at like 1am.  The weekend was almost nice enough to go to the beach.

Live in Port Charlotte (boy am I lucky  ), Charlie loved playing 'lets take this tree and electric pole and start bashing stuff game:devil:' along with 'lets see what happens if we put a live electrical wire in water:drevil:' , Power is still out (Im typing this on another comp), I got to see the "eye", found out what it feels like to sweat and have no AC along with the inabiliy to bathe (add another four to that.....:shaking: ), and a blazing hot sun. Oh these are good times indeed.... :doubt:

Add all these smiles together and you get this: :hopping:

I feel for you, bro!  In Andrew we had lost power for over a week, my grandmothers house fo 2 weeks.  The good thing was that we pulled out the barbecue and started to clean out the freezer, getting fat on bbq steaks :)  It's strange, I don't remember much of how I passed my days, but I know the nights were filled with me and my cousins and sisters all talking crap around candles.

I think the funnest thing we did was my sister was a huge AD&D player with her boyfriend, so they came over and we started to play one of those dice games.  My sister pulled out her boombox and started to play the soundtrack to Conan the Barbarian.  It was the first and only time I had ever done one of those games, but playing that game in candlelight while conan's soundtrack was going on was too fun.
