...is this some sort of wierd British thing which I'm supposed to know about? It looks kinda cool, but without some context, I'm afraid I'm lost...

It started life as a French cartoon, which was exported to Britain, but without scripts. New scripts were written to fit the action, and new character names were invented.
The French were offended because they thought Dougall was taking the piss of DeGaulle.

And now they're making a film of it.

Copyrighted, though.

It shall be an army of bins on springs with brooms stuck to the front. With which Zebedee will proceed to wreak a bloody revenge against the world which left him with a spring for legs.

Dougal, last survivor of,er hippie-dog-kind, will assemble a fellowship with the ex-military hardman ganster Soldier Sam, and assemble a great army of robotic cheese graters at the last fortress - the (ominous music and voice of bloke who smokes too much and always does movie voiceovers) Magic Roundabout.  Of death.

And then they'll dub it over with a cheesy soundtrack and lose the voice acting and scripts so they have to re-record with some from the TV series.

Job done.
