Title: Help me solve the Myrmidon Mystery.
Post by: F1gm3nt on August 16, 2004, 04:14:42 pm
I was just browsing the wiki(and updating my install) after a long departure from anything regarding FS2, while reading the media VP part I discovered that there was a hi-poly myrmidon model in one of the vp packs. Now, I'm thinking wow, someone else remodeled the myrmidon, I wonder how it looks and I downloaded the pack to find that it was the model I edited. w00t!(My nick's not listed beside it but, eh I don't really care all that much)  Anyhow I was just wondering who actually got it to convert to .pof and what the problem was, I dissappeared for quite a while pending some RL stuff that came up and despite doing a search and reading the old thread never really came up with an answer. Sooooo if someone has a clue could you *ahem* clue me in? Just want to say thanks to whoever figured it out and also make sure I don't do it again if I edit anymore models.

I converted it.  I wrote in the credits of the DL page that you made the model, but I never actually read the media VP to see who they listed.

JarC did something with the mesh, and when he gave it back to me, I converted it to pof with the old myrm as the next LOD. I replaced the pof data, and I put it up for DL.

This is the original release thread: http://www.hard-light.net/forums/index.php/topic,24107.0.html

You did an excellent job on it, BTW. Any chance of us getting you to do the Serapis next? ;7

Sweet. I think it did come out rather well, I was just playing around with Bob's shadow build, makes the ridges show up real nice on the rest of it.

And people told me you wouldn't be able to notice the armor. :doubt:

So the Serapis eh? I'll have to take a look see at it and mayhaps I will.

Oh... you should really use the higher resolution textures! That shot doesn't look nearly as good as it could!

But yes, the Serapis really needs a facelift. And I'd convert it good, too.

you guys who converted it, you didn't use auto-faceting!

Auto faceting is such a ****ing broad term! And as I said in the last damned thread, which you never replied to, what angle do you think it should have been at?! Because it *was* autofacetted, just probably too high.

20-30, what ever makes it not have visable blending along flat surfaces (like the wing thingy)

Raa, yea the new textures are better I just don't have them anymore I'm waiting for the media VP to finish downloading atm. As it's been said before and will be said until broadband is standard or free, 56k connections suck.

Bob -I- didn't use autofaceting at all, in fact I didn't even put it in cob correctly I'm pretty sure. Also I used Maya to edit it and all Maya has is a smooth function (which you can't do by angle in so far as I know) that made the bevels look like crud. Besides which I never even actually got the model to convert, though I went back and looked at it a bit ago and figured out why, it actually had two copies of the main mesh and three copies of the gun meshes right on top of each other, and in Maya when they're directly on top of each other Maya doesn't count the vertices seperately -but- when you save it writes them seperately, which I think was giving me the loop message I was getting. :) I don't know how in the hell I copied all that without realizing it, but there ya go. Mystery solved.
