Title: My FS2 Experiences/Questions
Post by: te27ch on August 18, 2004, 12:16:27 pm
*S* HLPerz,

Well, after hearing that FS2 was technically sort of legal-ish to maybe download, I got the HOTU version, which was rubbish, so then I found eMule, which had all 3 ISO CD-Images. After all, its just like "getting a copy from a friend," except multiple friends that you dont really know from around the world :D

So, I ran it at maximum details, etc, very nice graphics, and I finished the single player campaign too. To me, though, I actually liked the FS1 story better, more of a "We must destroy the such and such or its the end-of-the-world", whereas FS2 was more like "Everything Sucks, Alpha 1, so escort a bunch of stuff, save convoys, blow up stuff, have fun."

Now, it's over, after, of course, dying the first time on the last mission being caught completely unawares of the SUPERNOVA... "Supernova Alarm Countdown? WTF??? Jumpnode? I'm 9,000 away from that!!!!"

"We all pay tribute to Alpha 1, who sacrificed his life to save all of us, etc...." during that cutscene, i was thinking more along the lines of "WTF!!! I was heading for the frickin jumpnode with full afterburners, not caring what friendly civilian transports were getting blown up, and you think I was heroic? Cool."

Alas, it's over now, and yes, I played that last mission and survivied...

Question: Where does everybody play multiplayer, now that PXO, is, erm, dead?

Not only you find the FS1 story better. Glad to see new FreeSpacer around here. Enjoy your stay.

:welcome:

PXO is dead, there is a new system of some sort to replace it. I don't know it.

Yarr, it's a FSO thingo (FSO is Freespace Open (Created by the SCP (Source Code Project)). It meansd you can play multiplayer but you need a pretty recent version of FSO to do it.

Check the FS2_Open 3.6 thread in the SCP forum for details but apart from the launcher everything in that thread has since been superceeded by builds available in the recent builds forum.

Welcome to HLP. There are exits to the left and rear. Do not attempt to use them. Under your seat you will find empty beer cans, cookie crumbs, dog eared dungeon Porn mags left by Shrike... oh, and a Flamethrower. Unfortunately, we're out of napalm, so you'll have to bludgeon people to death with them.

In the event of serious conflict, there are plasma rifles in the forward locker, though these can be opened by an Admin, [V] God, or Hyperintelligent shade of the colour Blue. If, for whatever reason, you find yourself crawling around in the ductwork, there's a better than average chance you'll encounter a Shivan. They're easy to spot with the five legs and all. If you're lucky, it's just Carl, who responds well to food rewards. If not, then at least you die quickly. Be aware that the entrance to the main control room is guarded by subspatial claymore mines.

Have a nice day.

(yeah, i know TopAce got you, but i just found my old saved welcome) :p ...

Eh, picked up the *S* thingy from X-Wing Alliance, which I played almost nonstop for like 1.5 years a few years ago....

The whole SCP thing looks nice, but I was thinking more about vanilla FS2 multiplayer action, since I haven't had the chance for ANY of that yet.

Long live FS1.
Maybe HLP should all get together and make FS3!!!!
And SOMEBODY should make another X-Wing series game, of course.... :D

Ditto. What squad?

The SCP (generally) only improves stuff, without making changes in gameplay, and more people run FSo then Vanillia FS2 nowadays...

[q]Long live FS1.[/q]

You sir, just earned yourself a cookie :p There's 3 of us crazy enough to MOD FS1: Myself, Goober5000, and another... Forgot his name... Though I was testing stuf for him recently... :wtf: :p

Hmmm.. never really liked squadrons/clans much, sorta fooled around in the Emperor's Hammer, then was barely more serious in the New Republic Navy, then sorta abandoned them both. My "squadron" was almost always whatever flight group i was in the Skirmish maker...

FS1 is teh bestem.

If only the feel could be ported in the port... but every ship'd have to have 1 unit removed from it's control specs...

FS1's physics engine.

Have a look at the values set in the POF files to give you a hint :)
