Are there any custom escape pods besides the OTT one? My Starforce campaign is pretty much stuck with the original pods for all of the factions except the Earth Federation, and using ANY ship design for 1,600+ years (Starforce is set in the 41st century, not the 24th), even for an escape pod, doesn't make sense. So, are there any other escape pods floating around the web?
-
I very much doubt it - escape pods aren't generally high on peoples priority list. Why not give them a go yourself? Something like that can't be too hard to get modelled and ingame right? After all, no turrets, no weapons, bugger all pofdata to speak of, probably a fairly simple mesh, definitely a simpe table - it's an idea starting ship.

Or..... Not have them! You hardly ever see them as is anyway.

Why any escape pods?
Because when the Starforce's equivalent of the Galatea/Aquitaine, the SID Bellerophon, is destroyed, you have to escort the escape pods to safety while under fire. It lends an air of desperation to the proceedings.

Kind of cliche' to me, but.... suit yourself. If you need them that bad, make em' yourself or reskinn the Hermes, I'd say.

Mod engines onto a cargo pod.

Reskinning the Centaur might not be that bad either...
-
Indeed. Now you're getting creative.
-
reskin the FS1 nav buoy, add an engine to it, and you have super fast rocket-like escape pod. :D
-
The whole escape pod thing is overrated, you can only deal with about 6 at a time tops in practical FS terms. Something like an Orion would need about 200 of them to fully evac its crew.
-
Hey, didn't you watch Titanic? :D

Ok, i made an escape pod for you. Needs a better texture job, but it isn´t bad as is. Has a single turret in the back, to give it at least some defensive power.

Let me know if you like it.

Dude...you model a _lot_ :)
Pull the turret off it - Escape pods are protected under BETAC, but if it even has one weapon, then it's a combatant, and fair game.
And yes - I think it might need a new texture job :D

Uh, where is that BETAC text again? :D
Let´s face it, a medical vessel would be understandable as protected, and yet they are targeted by all sides. An escape pod is just that, an escape pod. The folks inside it serve a military vessel, and the pod itself is part of a military vessel. Fair game.
And since a pod is slow and defenseless, it would be only natural to add a defensive weapon on it. Either that or risk loosing important personnel.
Besides, the shivans don´t give a crap about BETAC.;7
-
Escape pods are protected under betac if no one is actually trying to jump out in them. If the crew get to the escape pods but surrender they can't be shot at. If they try to escape then they are fair game.
-
Wow, someone actually followed up on someone elses' request...
If this isn't newsworthy, I don't know what is.
-
I say 2 models. One without the turret for the BETAC supporters, and one with the turret for potential campaigns where BETAC is disolved. Just one request: could we see a shot of it parked next to the Hermes for size comparisson?

Why? It can be scaled to any size you want... Could even make it as big as the Collossus! It would be an eye sorrow, but who cares, right? :D

Maybe I should possibly try to get this guy on my team? ;7

Sorry, you see that newly added avatar there, below my nick? It says: "Busy- please call again later when the lines aren´t full". :D
Seriously, i just like to fiddle with models. I never thought they would actually be used for something. If ever i have something you like, and that TVWP doesn´t use, feel free to call.
All this becomes even more surprising when considering i had never modeled as much as a cube in my life until 3 weeks ago...
I´m puzzled!!!

See it's statements like that really make one evaluate their usefulness in the universe... (or lack thereof)
Anyway, good news is you seems to have such a natural talent maybe you will finish all their ships really fasy? :D
I'm into non-FS2 type stuff 75% of the time like Robotech or Trek so maybe give me a yell when TVW is done with models? L8tr

Sometimes you discover that you just have a knack for certain things :)

I love it. Just use EA textures from Inferno and it will be -perfect-.

*KT doesn't think WW is in a position to be picky...

The escape pod, which I have named SIEP Gunnar, is ready except for thrusters. Modelview put about ~200m of blank space below the pod, so launching it out of a destroyer could have some...amusing results.:drevil:

Not just the Shivans, since when did any of the GTVA's enemy care about BETAC?

Uh?? Care to explain that? What blank space? :wtf:
