Title: Reciprocity website deletion
Post by: aldo_14 on August 20, 2004, 07:19:11 am
The Reciprocity website will be deleted between Sunday-Tuesday evening.  I'll be moving the mod download links to the CoW website at a later date (need to streamline that*) & possibly the renders, but the storyline, etc, stuff will be permanently removed.

*seeing as CoW is now officially completed, it can be compressed into about half the pages it currently has.

http://www.hard-light.net/forums/index.php/topic,26314.0.html

I'm dupli-posting this here because no-one visits the Reci forum... and also to ask if anyone has screenshots of the Reci models I released when the project died... I don;t have any/much of the old material left, so it'd appreciate it if anyone had some piccies, to help me update the thumbnails on the site.

Incidentally, I'm thinking of dropping the links for the old ships - the Reci v1 ones (i.e. Peregrine, Segomo, etc and also that Vasudan ship whose name I forget) owing to their poor quality.  If anyone has an objection, nows the time to post.

There will be a ****load of (previously released) models added to compensate, though.  Probably about 20 or so.

Cheers.

Poor Quality? How dare you insult my adopted flagship!!! (even though you DID make it  )

(Makes up a theme song JUST for the Segomo class)...

  "SE-GO-MO!"

"We're off to HLP, We're leaving modding thread, to kick the Shivan's arse!"

  "SE-GO-MO!"

If you thought THAT was bad, wait till I get the disco re-mix ready! ;7

Not sure.  Depends when / if admin delete the forum & hosted entries, I guess.

At which point my post count will halve :D

Keep up all the old models, low quality by today's standards or not, they're still community standard by now. Getting rid of them would only make it more difficult for people who need to use them, especially in a time when our community could still use more models, and not less of them.

All the models on that website have been superceded by better ones of the same type, though.  Claymore has been replaced multiple times, the Cherufe is superceded by the Berserker, the Gagana by the Holler, etc.

I'm not sure there is an actual demand for them.  Certainly there are far better conceived and better looking models available (not to mention better LODed and mapped), filling the same roles.

I know I've used them on occasion, and still use them for a few things. Getting rid of them would just make it harder for people like me to find them when I need them, or replace parts of them if I lose them.

Simply put: You're not hurting anything by leaving them up...

The Holler crashes the game when it is destroyed on-screen.

Can't - I don't have the model or any of the 3ds / max / cob / scn files used to create it.

It's probably the live debris on the side missile turrets.  If you alter the pof to turn those into non-active subsjects - i.e. remove the turret properties, tbl entries, etc and just give them a set of missile points - it might work.

Not unless someone mirrors them.  GS would tear me a new arsehole if I started putting copies onto the 3dap servers.

I removed the turret points and the turret entries in the tables, and it still doesn't work. Someone ought to make a more fully featured POF editor that allows you to delete submodels (I'd just get rid of the debris for the turrets).

why ? it's not hard to convert to model file and then back again. Just note all the pof. data before you convert.
