This for Nova: The End of Peace. What do you guys think? The only thing I don't personally like about it are the gun turrets (they're the spheres with mohawks/ammo belts ;)):
Should be noted that I know it's missing something, so it's still a WIP. ;)
-
They feel out of porportion to the ship... Try making them HALF to 75% of their current size? And also add a third turret to the rear between the missile box and the stern of the ship to balance it out... Just an opinion...
-
Starboard view, the guns look just fine - I think the bow view is just badly scaled.
Anyway, that looks quite nice - very ww1 battleship-era-esque. (big, bulky, with heavy firepower for it's size).
I'd maybe add some detail (like a telescopic looking effect on the guns or maybe greebling the surface of the main blocky turret areas).
-
needs to be wider IMO
-
it needs.... spoilers....
-
It needs an American Flag on the side.
-
Updated:

And the flag will come with textures...which I can't do :(
-
The guns are way toooo big. Looks good though. :)
-
Question: how long is it? Cause that could affect the porportionality (...is that a word?) of the guns.
-
Big guns can be fine, but they need more character than just big barrels.
Anyway, what's the intended paint scheme? The black look of doom that the new USAF fighters have?
-
I'm not the ONLY one... (the voices tell me that)... :nervous:
-
Sorry, while that is definately a sexy ship, those deck gun things look way out of proportion.
-
Deck guns resized to about their original size.
-
I like it a lot. Kinda reminds me of some of the frigates in Freelancer. :)
-
Thanks :)

Better?
-
Yeah, but your making these things Huge, IIRC
IMHO, it could be "slightly" smaller than that
I love the design :)
-
Reminds me of a Brittish WW1 - WW2 era monitor, with the outsized turrets. The general hull shape says "Wing Commander". The engines look pure Starlancer Cap-ship.
Still, it has a nice, lean, predatory look, though it is spoiled a bit by the oversized cannon barrels. Perhaps slightly shortening (length in first shot would do) and tapering the gun tubes would do the trick.
Overall a nice effort.
-
At least now I can look at it and not just see damn gun barrels... Seriously, couldn't you tell that all your great detail was being overwhelmed by the guns?

Better?
Are you all still talking about this picture too?
Because those guns are about the same size as the ones in the first shot, possibly smaller.

-
Mmmm....
Phaser Rifle!
Seriously though, just reduce the barrel length in that last image by about 25%, with possibly a mild taper towards the tip, and that should do it.
-
My biggest grip is, unless this ship is 2 kliks long, it's entirely too narrow/missing stuff that would be needed for crew/ordinance/stores. Right now it looks like a backbone for a ship with engine pod, Command Bridge, and primary guns. It's anorexic.
-
UT once told me that his ships were double the size than normal Fs2 style ships...
-
Nice, Good work UT :)
-
In that case, I revise my statement.
It looks anorexic.
It needs to be wider somehow, or give it a reason to be that long and slender, like a rail gun or something.
-
Sometimes I think you guys forget how long 2 kilometers is.
-
about a mile
-
Around 1.25 miles... It's a destroyer more than a cruiser imho...

Indeed. A lot of stuff fits in a mile.
-
But even at that length, it's only about 200 wide and 500 tall. Even calulating volume(2000x200x500=20000000 cubic meters) that not a lot of volume for a ship like that, given that a lot of that is going to armor and reactor/otherwise uninhabitable. Max crew is going to be about 500 comfortably.
-
You must be joking. Take a look at an aircraft carrier or submarine's personel in comparison.
You could fit 500 people in one of the turret barrels on that thing.
-
Who gives a ****? It's a game, after all. If it looks good and sounds good, go for it is what I say.
-
To be honest it gets on my nerves when people complain about the so-called unrealistic crew numbers on FS2 ships.
The numbers are less than those on a ship a quarter the size in the current day navy so I don't get it.
Add to that the "Who gives a ****" factor that Aldo mentions I really don't know why anyone is complaining about it.

One would think they would reduce crew numbers in the future, no? Computers would run mostly everything. But FS stomps on that theory, assigning a crew member to each button or switch in the ships! Just look at the Colossus! 30.000 people??? Holy guacamole, that´s a whole lot of buttons to push!!! No wonder they got "murdelized", the crewmember in charge of the "fire" button was on sick leave.:D :D

Damn straight! :D As has been said, the guns are too big, but it's a cracking design. Outstanding. :)

I have problem with none of the variants above.
How many polygons will the game have to display when one of these ships is on screen? Just out of curiousity, it looks like to be more-poly rich than KARMA's fenris. It slows down my machine so much, so I found it better to enquire first.
-
None traingulated is 3172 polies :)
