i'm undecided between those two cameras. kind of leaning toward the olympus. or if any of you have any other suggestions as to digital cameras, let me know.
-
Obvious question I guess - what are you looking for from it?
-
well, i'm looking for which camera (of the two i mentioned above) has the best features, and is overall the best camera for the buck :)
-
No no - I mean - what are you hoping to photograph? Family pics.. macro.. nature.. people.. moving cars.. whatever?
Or just a general mixture of them all (I.E. it doesn't matter to you).

Actually I've been considering getting myself/my family a good digital camera for a while now so I'd also like to see what you guys prefer.

a variety. pictures of cars at car shows, friends, family, parties, pictures at college, pictures of the professor's notes (rather than writing them ;) ), pictures of things that just "happen"... like seeing a deer in my backyard, seeing a lotus elise parked in a restaurant parking lot, pictures of scenery/nature when i go camping/hiking/hunting, etc. i've narrowed it down to the olympus c4000, which comes from all my friends with soaring recommendations, but others have said i should consider Sony, who is supposed to excel at digital camera making. for an overall, rounded, best camera. which of the two would you suggest?

Whats your price limit?
These Olympus ones are new, but I don't exactly know how good they are...
- C-770 Ultra Zoom (http://www.olympus.co.jp/en/imsg/digicamera/c770uz/), 4 megapixels, movie recording (mpeg4), 10x Optical--4x Digital (Equiv: 38-380mm), Supermacro up to 3cm
- C-60 Zoom (http://www.olympus.co.jp/en/imsg/digicamera/c60z/), 6.1 megapixels, movie recording (QuickTime Motion JPEG with Sound), 3x Optical (Equiv: 38-114mm), Supermacro up to 4cm
If the c4000 is just like the c5000 I wouldn't recommend it, the C-770 I would even if its 1 megapixel lower. Best bet would be to go in store and check them out. ;) I would stay well away from Sony though, but thats just me.
-
yeah i'm inclined to stay more or less away from Sony myself.
and don't worry about what my price range is. it's between two cameras, they're more or less the same price anyway ;)
-
I still think its better to get a digital camera with zoom abilities that surpass 35-105mm, being able to focus on distant objects can be extemely useful in some circumstances
-
I'm curious as to why you guys are staying away from Sony. I've found them to be very reliable, with image quality unspectacular but usually on par with similarly priced competitors, but (significantly) far faster than anything else like them.
-
I still prefer Olympus/Pentax for digital cameras but heres my reasons(s):
It begins with their image, I'm not really knocking Sony that much because I haven't really tried any of their products. To say it simply its because they think they've been around for so long they take advantage of that apparent 'cool image' they've got over time and use that to make lower quality technology but people still buy it because there misinformed. Right.. I did say I've never used their products but I've heard information from friends/relatives and even some contacts from repair centres and within the company that their products aren't so crash hot. I haven't heard anything about their digital cameras but I've never used them either. Pioneer is another company just like'em which I won't go into.

Nice setup there. ;)

hehe why thank you :)
you're a photographer, post some pictures of whatever you've taken pictures of... anything. i've been going crazy with it so far :p

Crazy is excellent. ;) If you can take 20000 photos in two years, you're doing well. :D
Here, have some randomness:
-
that's awesome. yeah i'm hoping to go toward that kind of photography... natural, still kind of thing. particularly outdoors. and this camera has so many options to choose from. the only bad thing is it only supports smart media cards, the highest of which they make is a 128MB. nonetheless, at 1280x resolution, and at "high" quality, i can still fit 399 pictures on a card ;) I've had the camera for a little over 24 hours, and i've already almost filled the first card :p
-
That's the way. Make sure you take your camera with you everywhere - use it all the time, and you'll gain skill in no time. ;)
Post some more pics. I'll match every one you put up with one of mine. :D
-
i've only had the camera for 24 hours :D
we'll start this game tomorrow morning, when i shall go out and take pictures, and post them ;)
-
heh. nothing much. just some pictures from tonight ;) nothing 'artistic' about them.
(http://www.swooh.com/lorenzo/hlphosted/P8060151.JPG) there's a story behind this picture... i generally hate starbucks with a passion, but i went there tonight with a few friends, and as they're closing, the guy's like "Anyone want this stuff?" and there was like two people in the whole place other than us, and the guy was holding up a few little cartons of food that they sell for the crazy price of like $4.50+. so i was like "I'll take them". so he puts like a dozen in a bag, and gave them to me. it's like $60.00 worth of food. heh.
(http://www.swooh.com/lorenzo/hlphosted/P8050081.JPG)i kind of liked this picture. i don't know why.
no really... don't ask me why.
i still like my picture of the balls (see two posts above). i dont know why, i'm sure it's a very simple picture, but it just seems cool to me.
