how do you use the invisible texture BTW ? when I convert to bmp. I get the Invisible Light Source tm !!

Just use a temp texture and then edit the .pof in model view. Change texuter name to INVISIBLE and poof! pof dissapears! (WHOOPIE!) that's how I make beams appear out of nowhere without wasting resouces to have a turret (mjolnir) instead of a capship strike or ground batteries from a planet surface... ;7

Copy a random texure and name it invisible of course :D
As for the turret. Don't you think 800 polys is a bit much for a single turret? Unless it's the only one on the ship that is :D

yeah that's a big turreNt:)
btw it doesn't seem to be triangulated so pcount should be little higher, and there's some polywastings (edges that can be removed without affecting the mesh)

thanks for the info, that invisible texture should be useful.
And yeah, it will have only one of these things attached. The idea is for a ship which will have a disproportionatley powerful main cannon to it's overall size. Which basically means it will have a fukoff cannon attached. Should be bigger than most Freighters anyway.
Actually I'ain't done yet so the poly count will be higher still. What's the reasonable limit for an HT&L capship again ? :nervous:

That could be ship all on it's own, that looks really nice. This is definitally an alpha strike weapon, I would assume that anything that this is mounted on would have several more tradition turrets as well?

Yeah, that really could be a ship. The hole above the main-forward-gun-thing could be a fighterbay. Looks about corvette-sized, to me.

Hmmm, I suppose it could be a ship in it's own right, with some modification. But for now it's gonna be a dooms day weapon :cool:
And yeah, other than this weapon the ship proper will be a regular cappy.

Hmm Would it be possible to have it a standard part of the ship, but then, if the ship goes below X% hull integrity it separates and has N% hull integrity, the only "MODding" I've done is editting the .tbls with Word 97 so I don't know much about modding

Wouldn't be possible without code changes.
You could simulate it using docking but it wouldn't work that well.

Maybe you could use the set-ship-position and get-ship-position SEXPs, but on a player ship you wouldn't be able to use it as a gun.

In conjunction with a three entries on the table it might work as a non player ship. You have one model with a gun turret and two models as seperate docked ships. When it all goes pear-shaped you ship vanish the original ship and bring in the other two docked and set the hull to the correct values. Then undock and you're done.
Lot of trouble though if you want to do it more than once in a campaign though :)

I've no idea if I can make these turbine style things rotate without messing up the turret axis.

They're plazma ramscoop intakes for the main reactor and engines.

Turbines for sucking in and slicing ships you mean....oh wait, no air in space...damn. Um...that would make one hell of an aerial battleship...like... a sort of sky gunship...
WHICH REMINDS ME, can someone PLEASE model the Egg Carrier from Sonic Adventure 1 if it hasn't been already? That ship RULED!
:D One more thing...this turret....downsized...placed on almost ANY fighter as a standard weapon hardpoint's firing location...would look badass. I can see this for example being used to upgrade the look of the Herc 2's guns...the current stick-thing ones sux =P
