read about that in the paper. Sittin' near a natural gas pipeline IIRC.
-
Yeah, I was considering posting this today. Freaky stuff.
-
pop.
Well, London's had a good run as capital city...
-
England, let this serve as a warning to you; I speak on behalf of Americans everywhere when I caution you that if you do not remove these weapons of mass destruction immediately, we will invade you.

Eh? What kind of sick bastard are you? :wtf:
There's nothing 'great' about the massive loss of life that will occur if/when that ship blows...

Sorry, I was refering to Ford Prefects joke...
I'm so sorry for not quoting

Hopefully, and most likely, this is news sensationalism.

I figured as much. I just felt like going off on you. :p
hehehe

It seems a bit wreckless. Isn't this kind of inviting suicide terrorists to try and set off the damn thing now?
-
I keep hearing the guy from Dad's Army every time I read "We're doomed!"
And thus I burst into laughter... :p
-
NEWSFLASH
Today a large rusting tanker containing world war two ordinance was detonated by a skydiving terrorist. In his suicide note he thanked Allah, Mikhail Kalashnikov and finally the media for supplying him with the location, size and payload of the tanker...
-
he also thanked the makers of Jihad brand parachutes, for supplying him and many others with a sturdy and reliable parachute that didn't cost a fortune like some other brands.
Remember, thats Jihad brand parachutes, recommended by 9 out of 10 terrorists and the official sponsors of the 2004 Saudi Arabia Jazz Festival.
...what was that?! Oh I guess its 9 out of 9 terrorists now.
-
Saudi Arabia Jazz Festival? So that's warm weather, exotic fruits, opulent displays of luxury, and jazz? Where do I sign up?
-
Oh yeah, they're pulling out all the stops this year. Come September, we're gonna have Riyadh jumpin'.
-
well, it sucks to be you, hahaha!
hahahahaaha!
hahahahahahahahahahaha!
/*looks at massive air force base that more likely than not has 100 megatons of nuclear munitions in it sitting less than a mile away from were I both go to school and work*/
...crap :doubt:
-
A 'Halifax Explosion' just waiting to happen, eh?
-
Definately not something to trifle with. These sorts of things need to be dealt with rapidly.
I've seen the photos and read the survivors reports from the Halifax explosion. Two ships, filled with explosives, collided and their cargos exploded. It flattened half of what was then Halifax. The devastation was second only to the dropping of the atomic bombs on Japan during WWII.
I find the subject of WWII fascinating and this goes to show that despite it having occured 60 years ago, its legacy still remains in one fashion or another.
-
The wreck is 60 years old. I don't think this is classified stuff.

No, the problem is that there is a wreck. :p
Of course what I don't get is the slow response by Britain. "OMFG we could all die from a wreck full of explosives...Quick action is needed! Let's conduct an investigation to discover what solutions are possible, then form a commitee to discuss what solution to take, then form another commitee to decide whether or not to take action, then elect representatives to decide what action to take, then open the bidding to take a solution...oh crap, turns out there was a mistake in deciding the members of the original commitee."
I can almost see some fisherman setting off the explosives by accident while Parliament decided to reveal the existence of the wreck. Anyone want to bet that they knew about it 20 years prior to the investigation/discussion in 2001?
-
I say you evacuate the city and send Tony boy down there to disarm it. Its a win/win situtation.
-
If it goes off this will just be another thing to blame on the U.S. ,make everyone hate us more.......great
-
..what? Thats makes no sense, what does this have to do with the US?
-
doesn't realy matter...
though didn't it say the bombs were from the US?
-

Folks, this is a man with good ideas.
And if he sends a distress call then we send Bush to rescue him. Heh heh, can't you just see them both bumbling around in the dark, rusty corridors in environmental suits, crashing into stuff and falling over?
-
It's inspecific, but that can be surmised from the fact that it was an American freighter. For the purpose of its cargo at the time of its sinking, the distinction is basically irrelivant. Of course, since it hasn't really been US property in the last 60 years, and since I doubt many Britons would have wanted the US to not get involved 60 years ago, Night Hammer's statement makes little to no sense.
-
a US cargo ship that lies half-submerged on a sandbank in the Thames, only two kilometres from the Kentish town.
Kiss my ass, thats what it has to do with the US
-
I do beleve his comment was sarcasticly directed at the tendency to blame anythng bad that happens in the world on America.
-
So.....why wasn't it removed in the last 60 years? :wtf:
-
By "America" I assume you mean either "terrorism" or "El Nino."

Meh, that'll teach the British government to leave weapons lying around for 60 years in their own capital - while trying to play bulldog around the rest of the world with the real global powers.
A case of "we need to clean up our own country, then worry about other peoples" at its most literal!

"HIDDEN TIMEBOMB OF WW2 CARGO TO DESTROY LONDON!!!"
Nah....needs a poor ryhming / alliterative pun
"DERELICT DISASTER DUE!"
And to blame the Germans
"DERELICT DISASTER DUE! - THANKS, FRITZ"
Couple that with a Daily Mirror 'crusade', half-bake and you're done.
EDIT; actually, need to blame asylum seekers as well
DERELICT DISASTER DUE AS ASYLUM SEEKERS THREATEN THAMES WRECK
The Daily Moro...Mirror exposes how the Krauts 1939 warmongering was all a plan to doom London to disaster in 2004!
Plus! Robert Kilroy Silk explains how we can blame the EU and Arabs for our own civic ineptitude. And how you can help by raising our sal....joining our campaign!
-
LOL, I can see it now. So much effort into stopping terrorism, and in the end we blow ourselves up ;)
-
Sucks to be you!
-
York might regain its position as the rightful capital of England, so it can't be all bad.
-
Damn that Suck!!!

this whole thing If those Bomp's explodes
that would be really bad
-
If you ever lived in Britain you will realise that they will wait for it to blow up and then worry about making sure it never happens again, whilst doing absolutely nothing about it. The government is good at sitting on it's collective lazy arse and doing nothing.
-
Yeah, but this is London. They'll probably give them a £120 million lottery grant to remove it and build an opera house or something.
-
LOL Probably. :)
Damn, that reminds of how annoyed I still am about the Dome not being turned into a film studio because they Japanese company were 2 days late with the payment. I mean, this is the British Government we are talking about here ;)

That was because David Blunkett secretely wants to turn the dome into an asylum seeker concentra...er, 'holding center'.

Or British Goverment could run away, and say to public we are only going to York for few weeks there is nothing to worry about
of course that not gonna happen
-
Actually, that's more or less what they are trying to do, which is decentralise the government. Good idea if you ask me, not for the anti-terror factor, but simply to make the government wake up and realise the the UK is bigger than London ;)
-
Why don't they disconnect the millenium dome, float it down river and then set this thing off to launch it - Project Orion style - into space?
Hang on a sec. I live in Dartford. That would be a bad idea :D
-
I thought Manchester was Britain's second city ? :p :p
Does that mean we (Manchester that is) inherit Capital status if all the cockneys go boom ? Atleast there'll be plenty of space for all those Houses the rest of the country's paying for...(bloody southerners)
-
Heh, I just wish I could afford somewhere less pokey, with so many houses down here, you would think they would charge less than 100K for a one-bedroom flat! :(
-
you're own fault for living in such a trendy district arf!
-
I always thought Brum was the second city
I only mention York because I'm a Viking :nervous:
-
Birmingham is bigger but Manchester is more important to anyone in England apart from brummies so it probably would be Manchester.
Capital cities aren't always chosen just on size.
-
You know, maybe the reason no-one in government is concerned is because they've put it under surveillance, and plan on evacuating if it makes any sudden moves. :p
-
I still want to know why something that dangerous was allowed to sit for 60 years.
-
Probably classified for 60 years
-
even though there's a huge sign which says "Danger! Explosives! Do not dive in this wreck!!"
they salvaged all they could during the 60s IIRC
-
Surely Edinburgh is the 2nd city? As it is the capital of Scotland (superior that Glasgow may be) and the monarchy is Scottish, that'd be the obvious place.
-
Scotland doesn't count. You were conquered.:p
-
But they'd never allow the capital to be in Scotland, the SNP would go mad.

No - we saved your arse when your Head of State popped his/her clogs. We own youse. Wasn;t for us lending you a king, you;d be run by the French or summat.
-
Glasgow was the second city of the empire because of it's industry (esp. ship building). We built the fleets that ruled the world.
End of story.

I live near Birmingham and I've been there plenty of times, great night life. Been to Manchester a fair few times too and I hate the place, just does not agree with me at all. I'm not particularly keen on Birmingham either though to be fair (apart from the aforementioned night life).
I think I have a problem with cities, I tend to notice that everybody seems to be really tense and uptight in a city and theres this feeling of unease that's always about. I guess city folk don't really notice it after a while though.

The current ruling family in Great Britain is actually German, as the Stuart line died off.
-
[q]The current ruling family in Great Britain is actually German, as the Stuart line died off.[/q]
The point he was making still stands - that means the last monarchy to originate from the british isles (relatively speaking) was Scottish. :)
-
And yet they still ruled from London. It's almost as if they didn't want to live in scotland :p
-
Ever heard of 'keep your friends close and your enemies closer'?
:p

That's because a lot of bad things are CAUSED by americans. Not all, but a great number of them.
And Night Hammer, knock off this Crossfire style crap. If you are incapable of expressing your political opinions in a civil manner, then don't express them at all. I for one am getting tired of it.
-
EDIT: Sorry, accidental double post.
-
British goverment mempers watch from Plain while drinking tea when those bomb's explode
Oohh everybody look there is nice Firework ;)
