Episode 1 was ruined for me because it was overhyped. I'll let this one pass me by. ;) Apart from that, cool. We can always do with more scifi on the silver screen.

I hope that Lucas don't make those

Well, he can fund and produce it, but he should keep his filthy semen-drenched hands off the script. If they are going to actually shoot these horrible, horrible abortions of a film, they must first feed Lucas locusts and strychnine, so he does not have a chance to fill the sequels with the most horribly boring and stupid drama.

Well, I'm not really, really passionate about Star Wars - the original were pretty nice sci-fi flicks, which had nice crude industrial look and often pretty sharp and simple dialogue. I liked them and they were original.
The sequels, on the other hand, were just horrible - I've seen rocks that act better than some of the actors in new movies, the dialogue appears to be written by someone who makes plots for porn films and apparently production team went completely insane as soon as they got ZOMG COMPUTARS!! and filled everything with MS Paint -level CG.
Add Lucas' asshole attitude and you have the basic reasons why ~every sci-fi fan absolutely detests the man nowadays.
-
Lucas has repeatedly stated that Episodes 7-9 won't be turned into films....which is good
-
he also said the prequills wouldn't suck.
-
Whether a film sucks or not depends on subjective opinions. Having 7, 8, and 9 done are objective. The original actors are too old for their roles by now. I am not pretty sure, but there is an at most ten year gap between the Battle of Endor and the Heir of the Empire(Ep. 7). I haven't read the after-Endor trilogy yet, they are simply too long for me. :p. What may be a detterent is that the events of Ep 7, 8 and 9 are well-known. You did not know anything when you sat into the cinema to see Episode 1, 2 and you will sit into the cinema chair without any knowledge about the events. Unless you visit the www.theforce.net 's spolier forums.
As I said I do not know the events of the Thrawn trilogy(I am ashamed of it, by the way), but as far as I know, Obi Wan's spirit reappears in one of the Episodes, which would be impossible to film since Alec Guiness died since then.
-
only the films are cannon acording to lucas, so the final three films could take place any arbitrary amount of time after ROTJ and include any arbitrary number of unnessisary cartoon charicters
-
It says harrisson signed, but did it say anywhere that hammill is under contract?
-
I cannot imagine this having any validity whatsoever, for one reason: Carrie Fisher. She's become - last I saw - rather rotund. I heavily doubt Lucas would allow Princess Leia to balloon out in such a manner.

Ever heard of slimfast and forcing gym upon her?

what the hell else is he going to do?
its not like Lucas has to worry about him getting other commitments in the mean time. I mean parts in videogames next to worn out pron stars don't come along every day
-
I thought Lucas was planning on making the sequels as a tv-series. This is good if you are doing Band of Brothers quality, but most likely we'd end up with something like the Clone Wars cartoon
-
The Pension of the Jedi!
What they should have done, imho, is get a whole new group of unknown actors together, and carried on the story from the Han and Leia's childrens point of view, whilst most of the rest of the cast play token roles ;)

no making fun of wing commander :P
(but who the hell was that playing rachel?)

Ginger Lynn, probly one of the most... proficent porn stars of all time, was realy.. popular... in the mid 80s.
and I'm not meanting to make fun of it, but going from hero of one of the biggest blockbusters of all time, to, well, working with porn stars on a video game, it's not a step up, I supose I could also mention "The Gyver" or what ever that horable move was. the point being he isn't exactly in demand these days

u forgot cartoon voice overs and comic books...

Everything on www.starwars.com is canon and official. And the Thrawn trilogy is also canon. :ha:
-
I remember him saying somewere that nothing that was writen was going to overide his "vision" or something to that effect, and that only things on film are cannon

Well, at least he hasn't hit rock bottom yet. Then you'd have to remove 'on a video game'

I don't think he'd get tha... actualy there's probly enough freaks out there...

In WC3 this was Jennifer McDonnell, but i don't know if she playing Rachel in WC5, too. But i think so.

Heck, I've seen porn stars in more mainstream job than that, the fat bloke who's name escapes me pops up everywhere, if you'll pardon the pun ;)

You know, its the strangest thing. Today I looked up and, lo and behold, there was a suspicous looking second moon. When I looked at it through a telescope, it had the words "George Lucas's Ego" carved in 10km tall letters.

It's just a shame that the planet you're standing on has "Derek Smarts' Ego" written around the equator.

The Executor is 12.8 km. And everything there is canon.
-
Doesn't really matter if she's fat.
Harrison is senile. He takes cue cards good though.
Hammil is the only one that remained sane throught the time it seems.
Anyway, for the contination of the story, age doesn't really matter. Seven Eight and Nine would be about Luke/Leia's children, thus ending the "son/daughter-father/mother-grandfather/grandmother" typesetting of the story.
Not that I give a ****. I like the ending that I've played in my head. It's official for me.

I am about to express an opinion that is on par with denying the Holocaust:
I ENJOYED THE NEW STARS WARS MOVIES.
Thank you. We now return to our regularly scheduled program.

Don't worry dude, this is not an uncommon opinion. I mean, I don't share it and hate the new episodes with vehemence (Damn you GL for trampling on my childhood!), but kids that were my age when I saw the original SW love the current ones as much as I did the originals.
I broke down and wept when they told me that.
But it just goes to show that... erm... something.
In order to make 7+ he'd have to fork from a lot of established universe from Kathy Tyers, Timothy Zahn etc., and frankly I'd not trust him to do so.
Right now, I have about as much trust with George Lucas with Star Wars as I do with Derek Smart making Freespace 3 (No offence dude ;))
There was a point here but I appear to have lost it...
How about getting JMS to make a Freespace film? :D

I enjoyed them too. In the same way as I enjoyed Alien 3. I just refused to believe it was anything to do with the previous films but was instead set in it's own universe and instantly an interesting film about a prophecy and a weird universal force appeared out of nowhere :D
TPM isn't a crap movie. It's just a crap Star Wars movie. Taken on it's own merits it's not that bad.

Hmmm, lets see.
Poor acting.
Uninspiring storyline.
2 dimensional characters.
Lots of gratuitous action sequences just for the sake of it.
My God! You're right! This would be a great Van Damme movie.

-
The thing is, if you really look at them, the original Star Wars moviess were pretty bad. I mean, take out those actors and you have a 2 Dimensional story with 2D characters. The actors made the film, and if you took EP2's actors and put them in the first films, you'd end up with a big-budget blow out, just like the prequels.
-
The problem is that everyone in the new movies, to my mind, are constantly thinking 'Look Mom! I'm on Star Wars!'.
When the original actors were making the film, they were all unknowns who had everything to prove. They took it seriously, whereas there seems to be permanent smirks on half the faces in Ep1 & 2.
I will always take as an example, the final confrontation between Luke and Vader when compared to any Lightsabre battle in the modern movies. The Choreography is simple, scream and repeatedly use the Lightsabre as a club, and yet the pure passion of that entire scene, the lighting, the music, the fury on Luke's face has you gritting your teeth going 'YES! Kick his Arse Luke!'. The new ones have absolutely none of that emotional power.
-
@UT:
That's the case with most good films. Good actors fill their characters with life.
No one says the plot of the original trilogy was very original story-wise. But the chemistry between the characters made the movies work and gave them the special charme, which is missing from the prequels so badly.
-
Empire was a great movie. Jedi was mostly trash and a new hope wasn't too hot but it's good as a film that pushed the boundaries of special effects.
At the time it was pretty amazing.
Flip hit the nail right on the head, passionate acting has far more weight than ultra fast backflipping. If I want to see that I'll watch the first Matrix movie which did it in far more style.
Lucas keeps fobbing them off with the excuse that they're kids movies. For kids movies they have quite a body count.

-
Yeah, pretty much everyone thinks Empire is the best :)
I loved Jedi too 'tho - It has THE coolest space battle *ever*. And the Ewoks were funny :)
Some of the Babylon 5 battles have come close, but the ROTJ Battle of Endor part was just total arse kicking!

Super-official site: http://www.starwars.com/databank/starship/superstardestroyer/?id=bts
Quote from the databank of www.starwars.com:
The size of a Super Star Destroyer has vacillated in numerous publications, starting with an eight-kilometer length in 1984's A Guide to the Star Wars Universe. The latest measurements peg the craft at about 12,800 meters. The miniature used for The Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi was 282 centimeters long.
Sorry.

I didn't say it was the best movie ever made. I said it's not that bad. Everyone makes out as if TPM was the worst movie ever made. It's not. It's a basic sci-fi movie. No better or worse than most of the sci-fi movies that get released these days. Had SW never existed and TPM was the first film Lucas put out a lot more people would like it.
Of course if you factor in the fact that it's a Star Wars movie then it's utter ****e in comparison to the first 3.

Sorry.
I don't want to discuss the topic in-depth (that has been done to death on pretty much every SW fan board/forum). I'm just saying: Read the articles on SWTC, look at the movies yourself and then judge for yourself. But please don't take something as canon just because it's on starwars.com or (god forbid) in a WEG book.
-
Okay, a question for you Warsies.
You guys keep refering to a film/book series that Lucas(who is a hack, BTW) has used and possibly is using as inspiration/source material. Forgive my stupidity, but what is the name of said film/book series?
-
The Hidden Fortress by Akira Kurosawa is the main film that it's basically ripped off of.
The film tells the story of two petty crooks (Think R2D2 and C3PO) who get caught up in the rescue of a princess.
Other sources were also ripped off somewhat. From what I hear the imperial stormtroopers were taken straight from Dune.
-
I thought the acting in the original Star Wars movies was terrible. Mark Hammil? Gimme a break. Star Wars was good because of the captivating story and the special effects. It's not deep, the characters are all stock, and it's totally formulaic.
-
I had no problem with the acting in any Star Wars films.
-
Here's something really interesting to note about Episodes I and II.
I went to see these opening night, like the other 80% of the population.
Adults who were adults when the first ones came out loved it.
Kids who weren't even born when the first ones got their first VHS release loved it. I have fond memories of seeing a few 10 year old boys dressed up in Darth Maul outfits beating the crap out of each other with fake lightsabers.
Most everyone who was a kid when they saw the first 3 hated the new ones (I, on the other hand, think they stand up just fine against the original 3).
Go figure THAT.
It's Lucas' story and money. He can present it however he wants without answering to anyone. If you don't like them, don't see them.
As for 7-9, NEVER going to happen. Ever.
-
So will do Episode I, II, III, IV, V and VI. They won't happen, they are played in a different universe, so none of them will happen. :D :D
-
:eek2:

Bull****. If he didn't care about what "others" think, and consequently how much money it makes him and his kids and his grandkids, he would keep the stuff in his basement.
-
Common you guys know that Lucas will do 3 films in cgi, the prequals practically are already!
More importantly did you see Lucas moaning about how much of a travesty it was to colourise old films, the ****ing twat wont even release the original trilogy in old fashioned non greedo shoots first mode. Messing with the past he moaned about, the twats redone all of his sodding films bar one!
-
u guyz r all h8trs!
-
He nerfed Solo, just to make it more kid friendly. Han was of questionable character, that why he was willing to take Obi Wan, Luke and the rest on the rescue mission. He was in it for the money. Han Solo was not a nice man, until sometime after he met Luke Skywalker.

They changed it back again in the DVD's apparently.
-
They'd altered the Bar scene? Theres so many 'remixes' of it now it's like some regurgitated 80's Dance tune :(
If he alters the Bar Scene, he alters who Han Solo 'is', it's as simple as that, I know that penchant for 'shoot first, ask questions later' hero is dying out, but that is who Han Solo was, the story was as much about his 'finding his honour' (Luke would never have destroyed the Death Star if Han hadn't developed a sense of responsibility) as it was about Darth Vader and Luke.
