My decent one that is, the one with Truespace installed.
So what does a long beep and two short beeps from the bios mean then ? (it's usually beep whurr)
-
Check from motherboard' manual. Its all in there.
-
Don't think I've got one (manual that is) :nervous:
thought bios sounds were universal ?

thanks Flippy. Looks like the GeForce4 is playing up.
-
No problemo :)
Try just taking it out and cleaning the connectors, that will probably fix the problem, sounds like it's wriggled a bit loose ;)
-
took it out, coughed all over it, seems okay now.

Don't know for sure. Assuming you have an Award BIOS, that usually means "I can't initialise the Video Display!"
If you have one of these fancy BIOS where you can hook speakers into the onboard sound, it might tell you for sure(In a "Hu Man Like" voice, as my mobo manual says :D).
However, not being able to initialise the display can be for a number of reasons, ranging from:
No Video Card (e.g. Loose video card, no video card, overheat, short etc.)
Where's My RAM Chip? (e.g. SDRAM loose/shorted/not there, etc.)
OMG My CPU Is On Fire! (e.g. Heat sink lost full contact, fan failure, CPU not in properly, etc.)
Cat Hair Shorted Out My 12v Rails. Help Me. (e.g. loose cable/bad contacts, shorts)
Dude, I Can Only Run At 100MHz, Not 400! (e.g. running a 100MHz FSB Duron at 133. Not that I have ever done this. La la la...)
EDIT: Damnit I hate it when this happens - I go and make a detailed post and someone else goes and solves the bloody problem!! *shakes fist* ;) :D

What motherboard is that?
And don't tell me they don't have SOME reference to 2001 :p
Heh, it'd be great if they had some UT voices in there too.
"Killing Spree!" - All your memory chips overheated
"Head shot!" - CPU is dead/missing

Mine has that feature - it's an Asus A7N8X-E Deluxe. Sounds freaky. :p

Yep. That's my board too. But I disabled that feature, because every time I turn it on it tells me I have no fan hooked up to my CPU... (But I do, only it's a really cheap one that connectes between the powersupply and the cdrom/HDD.)
Edit: Also, the voices are customizable, so you could make the headshot reference if you really wished :p

Ooh, I'd love to...but I'd really rather have a better vid card or processor before I buy a new mobo. :p
(Current proc's a 1.6 Ghz, but can be expanded to any Athlon XP, IIRC...vid card is a GF4MX440)
-
...You're talking to the only guy on the forum with a Duron at 601MHz...
-
Oh....

They aren't. You better find that manual and store it some place where you can grab it when necessary. The error beeps are specific to the manufacturer of the bios itself.
-
Got the same Mobo as sandy:D
i disabled the voice it iritated me like hell.

Those are beep codes used for diagnosing POST problems. Check the manufacterers website for what they mean. Beep codes may vary with each manufacterer.

I just disabled the on-board sound and moved to my SB Live card... still has better quality. :)

"I'm sorry, Dave - I'm afraid I can't do that"
