While browsing I stumbled upon a program that takes a 3d model (obj, lwo, dxf, mqo, 3ds files) and converts it into a flat image you can fold up into that 3d object.

So you can make a foldup paper orion! (Once you convert the thing to a compatible format) :D
Here's an example image, it's the Hellcat V from Wing Commander:

Screw the... ahhh screw it!

I tried this one time, it's very difficult not to end up with lots of little bits that are impossible to fold, FS2 ships might fare better but it's very difficult.

[color=66ff00]You can pretty much do this with max (and Gmax) using the chilliskinner plugin.
All you have to do after laying it out is import it into paint and draw on tabs to glue the thing together.

LOL, what'd you try, Star Trek's Crystalline Entity? :lol:

[color=66ff00]In any case 'Fold up' is a bit of a misnomer.
Origami, now that's proper fold up.
I used to make these all the time and leave them on trains and buses and in librarys, brightened a few people's days I hope. :nod: Only really make them if a friend asks now as I like to think of them as rarities, a lot of time and effort goes into each one.

Kamikaze == shi(notenshi)? :confused:
And Maeg, you should see some of the pics he was showing us earlier...dragons and snakes and the like in Origami. :p
That looks incredibly good though. Very lifelike.

Actually, I tried the Orion. You don't realize it until you see it "disassembled", but most of the ships in FS2 have lots of little nooks and crannies that make them hard to use for this.

There's always a cargo container :p.

The Fenris (the old one, natch) might work...

[color=66ff00]Those are fantastic but I'm more a fan of the purist stuff i.e. folding one model from one piece of paper, the octopus looks like it might be folded in that way, looks wet folded.
Still as paper sculptures they kick neck. :nod:
