Hello, can anyone give me a link to FRED 3.5.5, or the last one before OGL and HTL?
Thanks.

-
Thanks Goober.
-
Note that this FRED2 will not open any missions saved in newer FRED2s at all. Probably some minor change in the mission format. I still use it a bit though, as it's the last FRED2 without any of the bugs that came with the OGL versions.

I made a NEW install for 3.6 for my Trek mod BUT when I boot up FRED it says ERROR could not open GAMEPALLETTE 1-01???? What the heck is that message about. I don't ThinkI got it before...
[EDIT] Nevermind! Idiot moved mod folder to new drive but ONLY installed 3.6, totally forgot to move a copy of the basic FS2 install (DUH!) shold be fine in 20 mins (files copying over now)... Sorry!
I tried to delete this post but it says no...
-
Suggestion:
Open your FRED2 3.6 missions
Save them as FS2 Retail
Open them with 3.5.5
All settings were retained AFAIK...
-
What will that do if you've used the new SEXPs?
-
Not tested yet, but works for flags.
I guess it prevents only new additions to save...
Ask a coder for proof though ;)
-
It removes all FSO-specific flags and sections (such as texture replacement), but it doesn't change any sexps.
-
Beam free all global flag is kept AFAIK

Hi folks!
I have a little question...
Where can I find the newest FRED 2 Version?
Or is the version 3.5.5 the newest one?
Thank you in advance!
-
The NEWEST version of FRED2_Open is here (http://www.deepbluebettas.com/fs2/28072004B_fred2_open_r.zip), but it is still buggy and IMHO, is too cumbersome to use for FREDding. Right now, this build is better used for trying to hunt down bugs within itself, so Taylor can fix 'em quicker. If you need to do some FREDding, but want the newest build possible, I suggest you use the build bundled with this (http://fs2source.warpcore.org/exes/latest/C06172004.zip) build of FS2. Its from June, but I still use it, despite the elevation line and waypoint rendering bugs and its apparent inability to display dds images.
Hope that anwers your question.
Later!
-
Thank you!
Yes, this answers my question ;)
I think, I will use your recommended build as well!
-
I can't get the FRED files to open, keep getting either a message saying I can't run from a root directory or a list of call stack errors from fred, can anyone help me?
-
Which FRED build are you using?
-
Are you running it from your Freespace2 Folder? The root directory error is caused when you try to run FRED from a different folder. All the FS2_Open executables have to be in the same folder actually.
There's such a thing as being too neat and tidy :p
If that doesn't help give us an idea of your call stack errors and we'll try to help.
-
if you want, you can use this version to create backgrounds and then cut and paste using notepad. this way you don't lose features and such.
which is what im about to do now. :)
edit: unless you have less than 60 background bitmaps :(
-
Um, yeah, I'm trying to use FRED2 OGL (or whatever it's called), and whenever i place ships, some of them turn green and start flashing. What does that mean?
-
Once again: Here's the FRED build I use. I searched for it on the forums but couldnt find it, so I've hosted it for you guys.
fred2_open_c04282004.zip (http://www.penguinbomb.com/lightspeed/SCP/fred2_open_c04282004.zip)
Works for me, and has the new stars.tbl code in it. Briefing icons and waypoints are slightly messed up, but the rest works flawlessly (and you CAN do briefing and waypoints with it, if you know how). :)

Everything is in the same folder, and I'm using the build posted right above this message. Still getting root drive or call stack errors......
