Tonight I guess I realized something that I've known for awhile, but I've never really wanted to accept...and that is, working on stuff for Freespace is no longer fun. In fact, it's worse than if I didn't have to worry about the projects I'm in. Currently there are three- SCP, Ferrium, and a bit of voice acting for the 158th. But, well, none of them I've really wanted to work on and have felt bad about not getting any work done. The 158th I said I'd be done weeks ago, I've got a multitude of half-completed features on the SCP, and in Ferrium the bare bones of the sound API are completed. Yet when I start work on any of them, I find it's become a chore, more like a job I'm doing but not getting paid for. And honestly, I just need to move on in life, because my current situation isn't working out for me. I don't know what I'm going to do, but whatever it is, I'll never get it done while I'm still tied to keeping up and working on Freespace.
So, long story short...don't expect any further progress on my stuff in the SCP, Ferrium, mediaVP, or the 158th. For now I'm turning the mediaVP over to Inquisitor, who can give responsibility for it to whoever he wants.
If anyone has questions or whatever about something, they should e-mail me and/or ICQ me - (put 'wmcnospam' at the start of the subject so my junk mail filter doesn't catch it). I probably won't be around the forums too much...
Anyway...it's been a pleasure working with everyone and I hope you guys keep up the work. Sorry to leave you holding the ball.

well...yeah. that's always how it feels, until you see and play the finished result. all the work i do feels like a chore except for at the very beginning, and the very end. that's just how it is.

I know the feeling :)
No point doing something if you're not enjoying it or getting paid.

Perhaps you've lost sight of the real reason your here, or perhaps that reason no longer exists.

COme back and visit sometime.
-
Aye... but perhaps you may return. Go out and enjoy life for a while. If you want to come back, we'll still be here. :)
-
Sorry to see you go dude - you did some excellent stuff here, especially with the .vps and what-not for the SCP. :(
But if you're not happy, all I can say is good luck in the outside world - should it ever become too difficult out there, we'll always be here.

meh, don't get all dramatic, I got through this sort of thing all the time, just take a few months off, don't make any declorations or anything, just stop working for a while untill you feel like doing something again, that's what I always do, and most people don't even notice.
-
Don't worry, when you realize that doing other stuff is even less fun, we'll still be here. ;)

Good Luck WM, if it helps any, I haven't touched Lightwave for around a month now, I decided to get some music etc done instead, sometimes a change is as good as a rest ;)

Something else is quite around the corner as well. Or so I would assume at this point.

so what is the real reason he's here? to do work he doesn't enjoy doing, without getting paid?

Thanks for your efforts WMC.
And best of luck with your search :)

Both are true....
Sometimes I never do any work on BWO anymore. It used to be almost daily...now its every so often in spurts. Now we're trying to properly get it done but after its done it'll probably be my last.
Times change. Sometimes you step back and step up again later...just slide with it.
-
The longer you work on something, the harder it is to maintain enthusiasm for doing it.... I guess that's why the only thing I ever completed was a short campaign that only took (for my part of the work) a couple of months or so.

wise words, Bob.
As to WMC: Enjoy whatever you'll be doing, and if you feel like dropping by, don't hesitate :)
We'll still be here and awaiting your return (they always come back :) )

Indeed, it's supposed to feel like a chore, because it is. If it's not, either there's something seriously wrong with you, or you're one of those good people, like BR or uh.. Shadow Wolf. :nervous:

Whos gonna be doing the Media VP now?
-
WM is a talented guy, sad to see him go (again).
Good luck.
Taking volunteers for the media VP manager type... You know where to find me.
-
You'll be back... and you... and you.
Of course I'll be back Moe, if you didn't close I'd never leave!
Be seeing you around, C. :)

Farewell, and thanks for the fish...
i know how that feels, since making a webcomic sorta entails the same thing.. but it's different in how it feels to get a comment on "great job" or "i like your work, keep it up" and the like..
drawing isn't something i could just put down after a while, since, i guess i'm still trying to improve myself.
but the fact that it's something that you're doing because you like doing it, and if it becomes a chore, or you get burnt out, it becomes less fun...
my advice is, take a break, hover around the place to see how things are going, offer sage-like advice now and again, either that, or find yourself a new challenge to inspire fun into it, or try something completely new.

See you WMC have a good life..........
Just be sure to drop by often to tell us all you many of advertures away from Freespace........
